heat/air controls HELP!
« on: November 24, 2007, 12:18:52 PM »
My heat/air controls just stopped working on me.A buddy of mine said it was getting no power,so he ran a wire to it and the high speed of the blower to get me bye till I get it fixed.
Have checked the fuses and they are good.I thought it might be the fusible link.
it works fine with the hot wire ran to it,but just on high speed.I really want it working properly.Any ideas?

The quick and dirty method is to find a replacement heater box at a salvage yard. Alternatively, you can probably get one at Hawks Strictly Suzuki (http://www.hawksuzukiparts.com/.

There is a - for lack of a better description - a resistive bridge that makes the blower motor run slower that has been known to fail.  It may also be the motor itself...

The blower will work on every speed, hooking it up to just high speed was a quick way of getting it going.I have no power coming in to the fan switch or air conditioning switch. It just quit working while I was goin down the road.I have checked the fuses in the fuse box and under the hood and both are good.
I could just run a new power wire permanently but i would rather find the problem and fix it properly.

If you look at the speed selector switch itself, you may find one of the four soldered joints has come undone. I've seen them get bumped too many times being near the stereo wires or even just fail from being weak and having all the amps go through them. On high speed, it's common on some vehicles to burn one of the solder joints. The switch is a separate replaceable component held on by two screws. That's probably what failed or at least the easiest thing to check. Just look up underneath with the stereo removed.

I just had my dash out and jacked mine up. :-[ It doesn't take much. I'll be ordering one from Hawk tomorrow. Here is what I did to get me by providing you have the same problem.

Leave the little circuit board in place. It holds a spring and ball or something + the two screws securing it. You don't want these small pieces lost.

If you see that a wire or two has lost it's connection, jerk the others off.

Now strip 1/4 inch off all 4 wires and start touching them together (with your ignition on) until your blower comes on. Figure which combo gives you high.

Splice those two wires together and nip  the other two off.

Tape the wires up tight to the plug. You will have a plug that has wires taped to it that you can plug and unplug from your wire harness.

Now, as long as the plugs are connected, you have a blower. To turn it off, disconnect the two plugs and throw your altered plug in the coin tray or somewhere handy.

We'll call this the redneck repair. I'll keep my old plug as a spare once my new switch comes in. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow or soon and which two wires I connected.

Hope this helps a few people that wiped out their blower switch. ;)

Maybe.  It depends what he is working on.  If it is a samurai, then yes, the switch is replaceable seperately.  If it is a trackick, then if it is an earlier year trackick (89-94ish), the switch is replaceable.....if it is a later year trackick (95ish+), then the switch is made as part of the HVAC controls and is not seperately replaceable (as a whole unit anyway).

    Here we go.
The blower and blower switch work in every position. No problem. The ac switch works. No problem. The problem is that the power coming into the dash switches cut out the other day while I was driving.
I have checked all fuses and all are good. The wires have continuity from point of origin to switches but no power.I simply found an empty fuse location on the box,and ran a power wire with a fuse to to the hot wire running to my dash switches, and everything works normaly.
I still however want to find the problem and fix it properly, and properlt eliminate it and any chance of further damage from a short or something.

So you just jumpered a power line too it to bypass the existing power line and it all works? Was your heater blower the only thing that stopped working when you lost power? Got me stumped. ??? ???

At least you didn't order a bunch of part you didn't need.

I think that i will just install a new harness when I start everything else.I have been wanting to install my lift and such, but I keep seeing my surgeon.
As soon as I can, probably after Christmas,I will just fix everything in one whack and know that myZuki is ready to go.
I bought 2 of the 4 doors a few months back, and I gave the better one to my daughter thank god, cause I wouldn't want her having these problems.
