the kind with the hooks my club will not allow.
A lot of people hold this stance, mainly for safety reasons and I understand their point. But it is always amusing on the trail when the strap with the hooks gets pulled out every time someone needs a tug just so we don't have to bother unhooking the clevis every time.

If a vehicle is really stuck we usually just break out the winch rather then trying to tug them out. If we had full size rigs I would probably take a different stance on the tow straps.
