Screaching Squeeling Noisy Belts at Start up or going Slow (need some advise)

my mech says the belt will stretch in time thats why it doesnt hurt to make it extra tight with a new belt.................and i left out the other belt was limited but tight just not tight enuff.................
and no he didnt use the pry bar to get it passed the pully just for tension SO SORRY next time (if there is one) i try to give a lil help to some one else ill spent the day typing every factoid just so you dips dont bitch (temp out side wind speed wind direction last fart ect ect)  but you prob still will              later     much much later

Wow.  I haven't been that sensitive since, well, probably since before I discovered the lingerie section of the Sears catalog. 

But, enough of the scary internets for me today.  Time to get back into my protective bubble now, too.
'03 ZR2 2dr Tracker, '02 XL-7 drivetrain and electrcs
XL-7 front coils
1.5" rear coil spacers
Monroe 32316 shocks w/2" extenders
235/70-16 Bridgestone Destination A/Ts on stock XL-7 Alloys RRO Rock Rails (Presently removed, as they rusted to all hell; all the bolts were rusted to dust.  Real nice, RRO...) http://www.trivia-nights.com

Well Its FIXED  ;D

I went out and once i got the Big black Canister thing outa the Way it was very easy to Tighten the ALT Belt i used a BIG screw driver to Pry the ALT over while i tightened the ALT Ajustment Nut up Snug.

Started up the Tracker and the Noise was Gone!!!!!!!!! What a Diffrence!

Started up the Tracker and the Noise was Gone!!!!!!!!! What a Diffrence!

Outside of unexplained knocks/pings, belt squeaks are the worst.  Followed closely by brake squeaks, which, although sometime normal, embarrass the hell out of me.

Glad for you that it's gone.  But....still hope you didn't overtighten anything.  Further, though....nobody on this thread has said some peace of mind isn't worth an alternator every few years, either way.

Hey!  You're back!

Something to consider.. Re your mech's advice, wouldn't it make some measure of sense to adjust the new belt to normal, non-bearing-stressing tension and then, when/if it does stretch, to then readjust the tension to normal, non-bearing-stressing tension again, rather than over tightening it to begin with?
