How to set the headlights??
« on: September 13, 2003, 10:18:06 AM »
Hey zuki  fans.  I am new to this board and have some questions. I have a 88 samurai that I'd put on some yj springs. I  like my samurai so I thought I'd buy a new Tracker 2door soft top.  I like it alot but have some questions about how to adjust the headlites.  I don't want to take it to the dealer for somethig simple and I want to set the lights the way I want them.  But I have looked and I can't see any adjustments for them. Question is do I have to take off the grill to adjust the headlights? The other question is the auto tranny I have  has a power buttion. Is this used for offroad to change the shift points?  I still have lots of work to do the the samurai and hope to get lots of help from this board.

Well, you're in luck ;D.  I just got my 2000 four door worked on, a deer ran out in front of me and cracked the grill, dented the fender, and damaged the bumper cover.  When they worked on it the headlights were way out of whack and had to go back,  there isn't too much adjustment on them but one of the adjustment points in through the top undernieth a little plastic cover.  And I think in order to do the other adjust ment (left to right) you have to take the grill off.  It pops off fairly easily, but just be carefull, its very flexable.  As for the headlights being mounted, they literally snap into place, there is no bolts, so again, be carefull.  Other than that, I'm brand new to Suzuki's, we have a Chevy Tracker, and it's fantastic, we're really happy with it.  Hope this helps ::)   Dave

Thanks Dave,  The plastic covers are round? I thought they were clips to hold on the grill.  Thanks again.  How did your tracker handle the deer. Lots of damage?  undrivable?

Well, first off, it handled the deer real well, I was going 50 mph and it darted out imediately in front of me, by the time I hit the brakes it was too late. It  was perfectly drivable, $2100 in damage is a lot of time for the paint work to match the fire engine red paint, it's not an easy color, but they got it perfectly.  It needed an inner fneder, outer fender, grill, the chrome pice with the bow tie for the grill, and they replaced the bumper cover since the insurance was picking up the tab.  But it only had two tiny dimples in it, I was extremely impressed with how well it held up.  Now about the adjusters, I can't remember exactly but there is a little hole on the top to adjust the up and down, you'll need a long screw driver, and I'm pretty sure it's under a little plastic cap that's round.  By the way do you have a Vitara or a Tracker?  Sorry, gotta look back thought you said Tracker.  To adjust it side to side you have to pop off the grill, which pops off, but if you don't have to don't, the body guy was having a hard time gettign it back on without scratching it.  Hope this helped a little more,             Dave ;D
