Factory Alarm Gone Haywire
« on: March 21, 2005, 12:16:13 PM »
My 1997 SideKick Sport has a factory installed alarm system. For the past month or so it intermittantly will leave the tail lights and front blinker lights on..... repeated arming and disarming fixes it. Is this a short? Any help will be greatly appreciated    ???

I don't know i think the factory alarm is the cheapest thing ever built. Mine will sometimes only unlock the door and not lock it. Does your alarm make sound? mine just flashes lights.

yeap it will sound a chirp while arming/disarming. There is even a alarm system manual that came with the car, but no in depth troubleshooting tips.

Still hoping its a simple fix.....

did you check the fuses going to it? there are two fuses running the the controller box. you should check all the connections at the box to make sure its tight. the box is located behind the radio

Careful....I cut the wire from the alarm brain to the speaker, and one time the alarm went off (without me hearing it) so when I tried to start it, the engine kill switched prevented me from stealing my own car!  I tried disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or so to reset it.....ended up towing the fucking thing back to the dealership, and had them cut every wire going in and out of that dasterdly device!
