They work pretty good in offroad applications.  Apply the brakes, engage the line lock by pushing a switch or button, release the brake. You don't move.  They are very helpful in holding a position on an obstacle while shifting and clutching to select a better gear ratio and working the throttle.

However, in an on-road driving emergency where the truck is in motion or you have lost use of the hydraulic brakes, line locks are worse than useless.

Offroad use only.

a couple of the tow trucks we service at my shop use the line lock for the e brakes. up here e brake cables dont last too long before they stop working so this is a much more reliable system.

what  i'm tryin to find is another option to disk/drum-rear brake. saturn are disk/disk. but are big  $$  new  thats what we' ve been using . is there any other disk/ disk rear brake that is less $$ than saturn brakes i like the manuel e-brake on the saturn. but line-locks are easy to install. the j-yard is running out of saturn stuff!   stan

Try Maxima rear calipers, tons of them at the
wreckers, I found them looking for Saturn ones,
never did find any Saturn rear disk/calipers.

Just to clarify here so some goof reading this ends up doing something stupid:

There is a difference between Emergency Brake (eg. E-brake) and Parking Brakes.

A Parking brake is used to keep a stopped (parked?) vehicle from moving.  A line-lock Parking brake would be excellent for a tow truck -- especially when the truck is pulling a vehicle out of a ditch.  Over time a mechanical, cable-driven emergency brake would suffer from water damage and become unreliable.  A line-Lock Parking brake would not be prone to a slow failure and would work as good as the braking system itself.  And, it could be set up to lock up all four wheels.

Heck, a line-lock parking brake on the Electronic News Gathering (ENG) vans at work  woul;d benefit from line lock parking brakes.  If wired properly, it would be danged hard to move a truck while the transmitting mast is raised and the line locks were engaged.

An Emergency brake conjurs up the idea of plummeting down a steep grade trying to stop a vehicle with bad hydraulic brakes.  You grab on the handle, pull and pray.  Line locks would be pretty useless at this point as emergency brakes.

For what it's worth, your Emergency brake
is pretty worthless at that point too, might
be why they are called Parking Brakes now.

You would have to be in a real emergency
to even think about using it for a failed brake system.

Hi Stan,

I am pretty sure Wildgoody and I had a thread on this a while back - Toyota MR2 or front 80-82 disk brake calipers have a screw type actuator - I used the MR2 set up on ZeusZuki and it pulls up with 37 wranglers pretty good.

Good luck ;)
