headlight bulb out
« on: December 20, 2005, 07:53:11 AM »
Sorry for this one, but...on a '97 tracker, does the entire headlight have to be replaced when it's burned out or just the bulb?

If it's the entire headlight, where can I get one without having to sign the title over to the parts store?

Thanks!

It's just the bulb.

And the SilverStars might make a great xmas present. ;)

(I've got them in mine and they rock).

I would replace both of them, if one went, the other is probably close and dimmer than it was anyway.  The Silverstars impressed me, it was around 35 bucks for two bulbs at the parts store.

  • How difficult can it be?

Pop the hood,
twist the little black retainer ring,
pull the socket and bulb out,
unplug the bulb,
plug new bulb into the socket on the wiring harness,
stick it in the housing,
twist the retainer ring back on...
close the hood.

Takes about a minute...   ...no tools required...

and don't touch the bulb with your fingers... the oil on your skin causes the bulb to get a hot spot. and then your back to square one.....

Love those Silver Stars!  Funny how everyone has them and no one talks about them!
Super bright without that phony blue look!  Put mine on high in the woods at night and light up the world!

Oh and make sure you put them in right.  You can put them in upside down if you try hard enough and then your lights will look weird when you turn them on.  Just push them in the hole gently and twist the ring until it locks.  If it seems real hard then it may be upside down.
