Spacer on 1998 with Rock Steady
« on: December 31, 2005, 01:32:01 PM »
I have a 1998 Sidekick Sport, I am installing a Rock Steady lift and putting on new Eagle Alloy wheels and Goodyear tires.. Anyways, I wanted to get spacer before these wheels so this looks like the perfect oportunity to get Spacer/Adapters.

I've been searching the new but with only two positive leads. The first is http://www.ezaccessory.com which sells a "Wheel Adapter 5 Lug 5.5" To 5 Lug 135 Bore 87mm (Thickness Option:1.5")" for 196.16 USD, shipping and all. But they are on backorder

THEN I found

http://www.adaptitusa.com , which I like because that is all they do. They sell theirs in two thickness options, 1.3 inch and 1.8 inch, at a price of 249.00 USD for the latter and 229 for the 1.3 inch, all inclusive. And available.

Well, so I've pretty much decided on the latter because I want this done NOW>.. but if anyone has a comment or another better company to go with I would be VERY happy.

If there is no better option than it comes down to WHICH SIZE??? I have no idea which would be better, I don't really care spending 20 dollars more and would gladly do so but I have no idea if 1.3 would be better than 1.8

please advise

thank you, pat

What do you need the spacers for?

A lot of people, okay most people, have not so hot feelings about spacers.

I need an adapter, I would like to put new wheels on my zuk that come from a buddy's f-150... since he'll give them to me. The adapter acts as a spacer, so i need to know what size might be best... and where i can buy one.

thanks

Oy, that'd be a thick spacer/adaptor.

I think in the long run it'd be cheaper and safer for you to just get the correct pattern rims.  Not to mention that would mean your tires wouldn't be sticking out past the fenders by half a foot.

Thats basically what i'm asking, in my position it looks cheaper to do the spacers, but i need to know why are spacers bad and why is more worse?

The spacers increase the leverage on your knuckles.  It's bad for ball joints, bearings, races, your cv-joints, etc etc.  Everything in the knuckles that spins or has a weight on it.

That and you've now got an extra place where some bolts could loosen or come off and things could go flying.

Generally spacers thick enough to cover the vehicle's studs aren't a good idea.

As for the tires sticking out far I personally think it looks bad and forget about keeping it clean.  Any time it's wet out or you just hit a mud puddle it'll be ALL OVER the sides of your vehicle.  Not to mention when you turn the chances of your tires hitting the fenders are much greater.  Unless you're planning on lifting it or going with a smaller tire.

Well, as it is i have the stock 215's on there, which is like 4 inches of room from wheel to well going straight.. i'm moving up to 255's and a lift, so if after all that it still hits than I will take off the plastic then do some cutting. its a 1.3 inch spacer, and the footprint of these tires is the same as my current ones... so it barely stickes out. maybe half an inch. the guys at rocky road assured me that their rigs don't wear noticeable more, nor is there any significantly greater chance at a bolt coming loose... no more than any wheel coming off.

and mud on the side is cool.

Where I live it's less the mud and more the road salt and general shit this time of year.  The more of it you spray on your vehicle the more you have to clean it and the more gets into the nooks and crannies.

Mud/slush/road salt/crap = moisture = rust.  Welcome to the rustbelt.

Despite the free wheels, I think the money you'll spend on spacer/adapters will be the same or even more than finding a set of used wheels in a salvage yard.

the wheels are nice and come with tires would of cost a lot to get the same kind. the spacers I wanted anyways... the question was if anyone had experience with them.
