Is it cold where your at? where ever your at(hint hint) there is a small line or hose that runs from underneath the intake manifold to your intake tube over to your idle air control valve and back(small black hose should be warm to the touch after warming the engine up)the valve that controls the heat to it is under the manifold close to the fire wall, this valve could be cloged.

ok, well if you suck any water through your maf unit it will mess it up, or if you over oil a k&n filter could do it, check your tps and coolant sensor, allmost sounds like a bad ground or computer(ecm capacitor problem) open the ecm up and smell if it is burnt or can see leakage of one or more of the caps.

Trying to read the fsm and it has everything thing in there to check which sounds like everything, from egr valve leaking too much, damp ecm, water in ecm, loose connector on ecm, engine not up to running temp, coolant sensor, o2 sensor contaminated, ect.

Linx's sierra has a 1.6L vitara motor in it. its an 8V carby motor, not injected. and he is using the stock sierra/sammy airbox in the stock location.

the thermostat? i dont think so. it might have something to do with the idle up for the air con, or something like that...

Linx:

Does your Sierra have a Hitachi Carburetor?  If so, these bugger can get tempermental in their old age.  They have a LOT of vacuum hoses, check valves, etc. that can go bad and generally ruin performance.  Also, they are set up for the 1.3 and you may have some performance problems with it feeding a 1.6 8-valve.

Try looking at Section 5 of the Samurai FSM for info on servicing the Hitachi... which you will find by checking out the web site in my signature  ;).  Search for fsm and select the second .pdf file.  It's a long download if you are using dialup.

I hope to have a comprehensive Hitachi Carb vacuum line article posted real soon!

Hope this helps!
