guys i am thinking about putting the rocky road 4.5 body , susspension lift kitl on the my x-90.  the cost of the kit is 730.00.    my 4x4 speaciality shop quoted me 1330.00 in labor to put this kit on for me ( 8 hours of bofy lift work time , 10 hours of suspension work time. this does not seem like a fair price for just the labor ??  what do you think ? this does not count the cutting the wheel fenders for bigge tires. this seems like way to much money !!!! what do do u think ? marty

  • Why have a Rev Limiter and not use it?
Does seem a little steep.  Shop around to other shops.  I've noticed alot of "little" specialty shops are higher priced with parts so I imagine they are gonna be higher priced on labor too.

-or-

Make friends with someone with a garage.  Get more friends to help.  Buy beer/pizza/dirtymagazines.  Get all of your friends together and put the lift on yourself.

Sounds like a rip, 8 hrs for body lift time?
Did mine in under 4 by my self with out a lift or a garage, heck a dude brought his to the last spring Zuwharrie in NC and we did it in the dirt at night with flashlights in about 2 hours using stock jacks.....where you at? I know several X90 owners who could put the kit on and trim the fenders for alot less then that, me included.

Plus 10 hours to swap out 4 springs, 2 shocks and 2 struts?!!  I could do it in about 2 hours with no airtools working by myself...

I guess I am old school....but something as simple as a body lift and suspension lift should be done by the owner!  Anything else seems a little poser like.. but that is just me..

If you just can't do the work, I guess you will have to pay for it.. Seems like I could do that work in two days.. so I would think the labor would be about HALF what he wants to charge you... seems like they saw you coming..

UNLESS you have a rust monster on your hands!!

Driveway, jacks, jackstands, couple cases of beer, bags of ??!?, hand tools.... a buddy or two, and a good long day, your done, smarter AND richer!!!

My opinion...  take it or leave it!!   ;D

When I checked into a shop installing my full weld on Sammi coil kit the wort price I got quoted was 1400 dollars. I decided to buy a welder and do it myself. Trust me, it takes 10 times longer to do a weld on custon coil kit than it does to install what you are looking at. I think you should look elsewhere IF you can't do it yourself.

A body lift isn't hard to do, i did mine about six hours, mind you i had a few busted bolts. Had to re-tap, i only had a floor jack and jack stands at the time, with no power tools.

Where you located, if your close enough i'd give ya i hand.

I'm sure some one on this board close to you would be willing to help.

. Buy beer/pizza/dirtymagazines. Get all of your friends together and put the lift on yourself.

I try that all the time(less the magazines), it seems like no work ever gets done, except for throwing away beer bottles

I did my 2" body lift, and 2" suspension lift in 4 hours all up, and that was with the help of one person operating the jack for me, and me doing everything else.

THEY'RE RIPPING YOU OFF.

Rear springs and shocks would take about an hour at most, the fronts you could allow an hour each side if someone is really slow, and the body lift, about 2-4 hours depending on ability.  it should be less than 8 hours, which should be less than $600 at $75 an hour.

Now that i think of it, you could fly me to wherever you live in the US, put me up in a hotel room, let me work on it for a day, feed me, and give me $500 and still have $500 left over from what those guys quoted you.

  • I drive a really big ATV
I paid someone to do my OME suspension the first time but since then with a mate (makes it quicker and easier) I have installed and uninstalled both OME and Calmini without any dramas and I think of the money I wasted. I have also installed and uninstalled the bodylift too and as everybody else has said it's pretty easy to do both of these jobs even with no experience as long as you take it slow and easy. Set aside a weekend and you can do it all and with some possibly even in a day. It appears that there are a few from the board willing to help  depending on when and where which is fantastic and think of all the extra mods you can do with all the money you will save.  ;D There is plenty of info on this board and if you get stuck someone will have the answers. Take the plunge and take up the offers of help, you won't look back.

By the way it wouldn't hurt to spray all the nuts and bolts you will need to undo a day or two in advance to make sure they undo easy.
