sway bar disconnect

does anyone know of any way to make a sway bar disconnect for a GV or know of a company that makes one?

2000 Grand Vitara.. boondox coil spacer lift w/ pro comp 2 inch lift shocks and ome struts. 225/75 R16 Kumho Mt's, powdercoated wheels, rear brake line relocation and stuff to acomodate. custom exhaust and intake along with some 1 off accesories.

I was looking into this a while back, The problem with the sway bar on the GV is that it is under the "axle". If you disconnect it it will just hang down to the ground, or if you disconnect one side, when the other side goes down so will the sway bar. I have been toying with the idea of completely removing it and seeing how it performs on the road, probably not a good idea though as this will affect handling.

The other thought I had is to use a torsion bar to go from side to side and machine some splines in a piece of metal to connect to the control arms. I know I'm not really explaining it well, but the picture in my head is pretty good.

Now that I reread my reply maybe you could disconnect both ends of the sway bar from the control arms and flip the whole thing backwards and tie it up to the crossmember. This may not be a good idea as if you hit it with a rock it could dammage it or completely rip it off.

Well I better have another beer and think about it some more, or maybe not... ;D

Unless you are wheeling hard, you really
don't need to disconect the sway bar, but
if you do, you could remove it, yes it affects
the way the trucklet handles, but you will learn
to drive it the way it now handles, and if you
just drop one side, it will be as good as none at all

I did drive around for quite a while with the sway bar completely removed and it wasn't that bad because I was expecting the worst. It helped my wheeling ability a ton and the front suspension was actually working GREAT for once. I haven't been wheeling for a while so it's back on. The idea of flipping it back all the way is what I hadin mind so if anyone knows how I could rig it so I could just pull two pins and have it loose I can figure out how to strap it up out of the way

It may not be completely neccesary to have disconnects or have it removed for wheeling, but it really helps a ton.

Drill a hole on one side, right in the thread where the
nut would go, and use a hitch pin to have a quick disconnect

will it ride like it does normally when it's all pinned in and going down the road? I don't want any slack

also, driving on the road with no sway bar can feel a bit iffy at times and it leans allot so if you try it be very careful

I don't have a sway bar installed  ;D
If you drill the hole right, you won't
even know it's got a disconnect, Jeeps
use a similar type, but it has a pin with
a hole and a hitch pin goes thru that.

You might not be able to use a hitch pin
only because it's not very big and might
not be strong enough

yea, I've seen my friend's dissconnect on his grand cherokee, but it's a totally different set up. My bar goes from underneath up to the A arm and then the bolt sandwiches the arm between two rubber bushings, if those aren't tight I think it would have slack... is this what you were thinking?

I don't know what the sway bars are like on a sidekick, but I am farmiliar with mine.
