16v to 8v swap
« on: January 18, 2006, 11:24:30 AM »
I have two 91 sidekicks. The two door is an 8v 5spd and the 4door is a 16v auto. My question is can I take the motor out of the 4dr with harness and computer and swap it all to the 2dr easliy. Plug ins the same and so forth. Thanks

With two running rigs, you could just swap the
drivelines and wiring harness with computer and
be done with it. If they are both man trans, you
could save some trouble and just swap the heads
and manifolds, EFI ect and call it good. You would
also need to swap the crank timing belt cog and
idler stuff for the different engies, but the rest is
good to go

I have been looking at doing this exact swap and I think you pretty much want to swap everything from the radiator to the dash. I was even looking at unstitching the mounts for things like the airbox and AFM.

By the way I can't remember which auto has the same length driveshaft as the 5spd. Ithink it was the 4spd that bolted up but you might want to check that out and confirm.
