Oil filter coolers and winches
« on: January 19, 2006, 09:08:54 PM »
Was cruising around and found this oil filter cooler.  Has anybody any knowledge of these? Wonder how much difference it would make? Apart from putting it on a filter I was thinking about it as a heat sink for the motor on a winch. What do you reckon?

Looks like it would work, I would put some dielectric grease on it first befor putting it on,In the winter time I would just put snow on the winch motor to cool it off.  8)

If your into RC cars, people use aluminum heatsinks on the electric motors do disipate the heat all the time, if it doesn't help at all, it won't hurt it  ;D

Theres no reason why it shouldn't work. You can get a proper heatsink compound that is thermally conductive that would help. Its used a lot in electronics so somewhere like Radio Shack should stock it. How effective it would be is anyone's guess but Honda have used water cooled oil filters on their bikes in the past.
