1.6L and tranny in a sammy
« on: January 20, 2006, 12:16:42 PM »
Hay guys going to be putting the 1.6L 16V in the sammy with the sidekick tranny and
a kicker 3 just wondering if you have to remove or modify the cross member the one that
the stock tranny mount bolts to in the  sammy between the stock tranny and t-case

  thanks

You are going to need to modify more than that.
The trans tunnel is too narrow for a Track/Kick
Trans, with a BFH and a body lift you might get it
all in there, on the other hand, call Gary at PetroWorks
and see about getting an adapter to put the Track/Kick
engine into the Sammy using the Sammy trans, and
save your cash on the Kicker and get some low T-case
gears.

Just a thought

I cut out the crossmember leaving the arm mount on the passenger side. I no longer have a transmission mount, the engine mounts and Mighty Kong hold the drive train in there. I got the automatic (which is wider) and Kicker in there with NO body lift and a bit of widening with the stock scissor jack. Without gears in the sami case its hardly worth the effort and expense, you would only have a 4:1 low-low. Toss some 4:1's in the sami case and you would get 8:1 in low-low

Quick question on the length.  Does it all match up length wise.  I am bidding on a 96 tracker with an Auto, for a similar swap.  1.6 auto trans, kicker 3, Sammy case.  I am assuming that it is really close.  My current T-case has the 4.89-1 gears in it.

Zooky how does that Auto hold up to wheeling?  The only concern I have is if it will stand up.  Plus if you have any pics of how it all looks in there would be great.

ok guys i guess i forgot to mention that i already have the 4 to 1 low in the sammy t-case
and i already built the kicker 3 copy at work.  I already have a body lift and im getting rid of
it its too high with the 8 inch coil over kit.  Im going to call petroworks on the motor mounts
widening the tranny tunnel with a scissor jack not a problem anny other thoughts

bhaugen    on the length im not sure i know when i built my kicker 3 copy i built it to the
same length as the sammy stock setup so there would be less vehicle mods

       thanks

the automatic works well and holds up great off road. I was concerned about heat so I installed a temp gage, while wheeling it pretty hard the needle on the temp gage hardle moves and is not far off the peg. The gearing does all the work so there is little load on the transmission.

Thanks Zooky.  If I get this Salvage Tracker that is the way I want to go.  Dang Insurance Salvage place does the bidding by Sealed bid.  So it is kind of a Crap shoot on what price to put on it.
