One of the big offroading features of the Samurai is it's light weight.  That said, whatever choice you make should take into consideration how much weight will be added to the truck.

That said, you might consider a set of Newfield axle shafts for your existing samurai front axle.  A far lighter upgrade as you only replace the weakest component in the Samurai front driveline.

Check them out at http://www.roadlessgear.com/page/RGL/PROD/DA/CV100

My 2 cents...

The spidertrax is coming out with the new spider 9 axles.  Have you checked them out?

Ã‚ Actually what Ack said is a good route and probably pretty close to matching a Big suzana front axle. Those newfeilds are big and beefy and can take thrashing. The inner shafts on both the newfeilds and big suzana are the weak point, as they are not chromoly like the birfs, just hardened steel.  Either the newf's or the Big suzana are the ticket for being light and tuff, and lets not fail to mention the Spidertrax front Sidewinder.
Ã‚  The bigger 3rd member gives them more strength, but that small sammy 3rd can take alot of punishment for alot less money and more clearance. Just have some custom chromoly front axles made and you will be living large. Till you breaK. ::) :P ;D :'(

Depends on the hook up of the tires

well obvioulsy but i jus dont kno the true strength of these shafts working with the axles. What do u think one step higher would be then new shafts? I would like to get ethier toyota axles or dana 44s but dont kno if they would work with the 4.3 and transfer case mainly because i dont know what transfer case would work the best and if the sammys could hold up to the power. But basically i would really like to use dana 44s uncut or toyota axles. But where i get confused is that the toyota axles i think the rear is off centered and the dana 44s are centered so thats where i get confused then also there is that issue of brakes! haha i guess the spidertrax axles would work the best but i dont want to spend that amount of money!

OK, here is an example of what I'm running

150HP Turbo 8V 1.6
5.83 Diff Gears
33x13.5 Swamper LTBs
26 spline rear shafts
22 spline front shafts
Stock T-case gears

Never broke a rear, and only one front long side

The Dana 44 used in late 70/80 Cherokees with a Quadratrac 4wd system are offset to passenger side just like the Sami. Those would work best for your situation. Some of these even had flat top knuckles - meaning that you could easily run hi-steer on them. The hubs will be full-time but that's a simple swap out for manual locking hubs. The WMS is 62-63" so they are a little bit wider than the stock Samis, but you'll need to get different wheels anyways, 6 lug required, so get appropriate bs. Since the D44 would be low pinion, the gear ratio goes up to 5.89s!!!  The quadratrac in the CJs would have a D30 up front and a AMC 20 offset 2-pc rear axle.
FYI, I have listed a set of these plus another front in the sale section. I'm in KC, KS.
