8v missing when cold??
« on: January 26, 2006, 09:14:54 PM »
When I start my 8v particularly in the morning or anytime after i let it cool down for about 3-4 hours she sounds a bit rough, but as soon as i rev her up to about 1,200 - 1500 RPMs  is when she all of a sudden drops rpm's and stumbles, she dosnt cut out but she does get pretty low, like around 500-650 rpms and then she'll go right back up to 1,200- 1500rpms or what ever i have it at right away.  That same thing happens some times (not all the time) when im at a red light and i press the gas, again particularly when she's still a bit cool.

I actually started to notice it in the begining of the summer, but since then its kind of goten worse I think.

Im not to sure where to start. I took her to the dealer and they couldnt fined anything wrong... (stupid dealership) ::)

Man does this problem ever seem common. I only had my Sidekick for about 1 month and then it started to hesitate when it was cold, acting like it couldnt get fuel. I didnt have it long enough to fix the problem, but it whent away when it was warmed up. It was strange for sure. My idle also didnt drop, it just stayed around 1500rpm untill it warmed. I thought my Suzuki was smooth at idle compared to my 4-cyl YJ.

Mine does that exact same thing. (Funny too, mine looks to be the same year and mines also white ;) )

I have go give it gas for 1 to 2 minutes when its any colder then 30 * F. I think it may be the timing, is you're check engine light on too?

Well when I first start my kick it idels about 1500 - 2k until it starts to get warm then it drops to about 1k and reves back up to 1500 and continues to drop and rev drop and rev until it gets to operating temp, i had some time the other day and decided to play with the Choke thermostat, and i could stop iratic adle like that however,   the next day I came to a stop at a light and the Idle droped so that the tack was not moveing - however it was still running-  I reset it to idle about 900RPM at idle but i think the chocke thermostat is fried, i have anouther one but have not swaped it to see if that is truly the issue.  seeing how the motor is out of a 94 and the kik is an 89 it could have somthing to do with it. I swaped all the intake parts for the 94 in  but had to keep the 89 DIST because of the conections to the harnes.
All things must start and end, the key is to not let them start and end in the same place.

you might have a bad cold idle air valve and your idle is turned down too much to compansate. i hade a simaler problem and after i replaced the cold air valve and reset my idle and tps it went away.

Mine doesn't go into cold start idle either, starts and goes to 1500rpm for a second and drops to 8/900rpm I don't know what's wrong either.
