YA, the Trail Tough locker is a 3 pin design where as the sammy is a 4 pin design.

I don't think they actually sell a front lockrite for the kick but since you use your own sidegears does it matter? ???

Trail Tough sells a locker for Kick front . . .

This is an interesting article featuring the disadvantages of the auto-lockers.  It looks like the auto-lockers use a synchro that locks up after a certain amount of spin.
They do not as easily "unload".  When I saw the price of the lockright, I did a lot of web-surfing to check it out.

Binke, I have a lockrite in the rear of my kick and It does sometimes windup and unload but not too bad. I'm buying a front locker and since you have the front hubs unlocked on the street I shouldn't have much trouble.

I guess it would be an excellent solution for the front diff.  Will the Lockrite fit in a 2002 GV with Manual Tans?

What is the difference between the Auto Transmission differentials and the Manual Transmission differentials?  Is it the spline sizes going in, or just the gear ratio?  Or is everthing different?

Just the gear ratio is different. I have the new Trailtough locker in my hand and all the steel parts on my bench so after the Calico trip I will be putting my 5.83's on the locker and into the GV 3rd member then into the steel housing. I'm also doing the widening at the same time. ;D ;D ;D

Hey GV 1600, You have a vacume operated front diff. I don't know if you can just replace the carrier with one like the trailtough locker or a sammy carrier. Probabally you can but you'll have to put on manual hubs.

The GV has a small electric air pump to engage the left drive shaft, not vacuum.

Wouldn't a disengaging driveshaft be a better solution than the locking hubs?  Then you wouldn't have to get out and lock them.

I was told by the dealer that the diffs were completely different between the auto and manual trans Grand Vitaras.  In my manual both the front and rear look like they have 10 bolt carriers.  Are there any differences in the rear?

Thanks,

Marc

I already have manual hubs on.
Superwinch hubs included with the calmini lift kit.

They are completely different.  The manual has a steel diff, the auto has a tin can ;).  Other than that, they bolt right up the same.
