i have a 96 tracker. Lately I have to really stomp on the clutch to get it to let the starter engage.  Where is the starter lockout switch located, and is there an adjustment that I can make, or can you just put a jumper across it without burning something up?

Give it a check for dust bunnies.... sounds simple enough. Mine actually quit working because of how dirty is was. There is a way to test it, it specifies how to in the hayes manual.

Mine does the same, and I'm planning on rerouting the wires and using them for a kill switch up under the dash somewhere. I had a look under there and I'm lacking the double rear-articulated elbow to try and adjust the blasted thing. Just my .02

SPLICE THE WIRES TOGETHER AND BYPASS THE SWITCH.
IN COMES IN HANDY TO RESTART IN GEAR IN LOW RANGE. I JUST DON'T LET ANYONE ELSE DRIVE IT FOR SAFETY SAKE

I finally took the time to crawl underneath the dash.
Turned out to be reeeeal simple. The switch is mounted on a threaded stem. Disconnect wires, loosen jam nut (14mm) twist the switch a turn or so, tighten jam nut, plug it in...
