tires
« on: February 06, 2006, 10:29:25 AM »
does anyone know how a general grabber A/T compares to a pro comp AT? can't decide between the two tires, I'm leaning twards the general because I can get the slightly bigger size that would still fit stock and they would be more friendly to a small lift than the pro comps due to thier slightly larger size. So if anyone knows anything about how well either of thease two tires do, please let me know

if you gonna go and buy new tires, figure out what you gonna do to your truck and buy tires accordingly..  you dont want to buy tires that just fit, then add a 2 inch body lift and 1" spacers and realise you could have gotten 32s instead of 30s.... and if you wanna wheel, dont get a/t, get  m/ts,   I once got stuck with a/ts going TO the trail that I used to wheel with my mts.   Theyre a bit louder, but if you have snow or mud, you wont regret them.

well, I am really limeted on my off road driving due to the fact that my zuk's title is in my dad's name and he's being stupid about it.. I figure and AT would be tons better in the snow I have to drive in and the little bit of mud and off road stuff I go through than the wiener mini van tires I am using now. The main reason I want an AT over an MT is that an AT will still do decent off road and get quite a few more road miles. I will wheel the crap out of it once the title is in my name and I should still have the same tires when that happens.. I figure the generals I want are about a 29" tire and that wouldn't be too bad with an inch and a half spacer lift.. I am pretty much set on an AT for what I am doing for now.. your advice on the MT is much appreciated and when I start wheeling a bunch that's probably what I will do but I'd like to know about different AT's

thanks a bunch

The new Generals are better than the old models. The General AT2 is alot like the older BFG AT (pre KO). It is a good tire. I have a set of them on my lifted 2wd van and they seem to ride nice on the road and work well off-road. I even run the dunes with them at 10 psi and then air up and drive home. I have had them on for about a year (15k) and they show no signs of wear yet.

I also had a set of the older Grabber AT tires on my Astro work van (30x9.50). They were not as good as the newer AT2s and seemed to wear faster and I even had a sidewall blow out after taking a few jumps. Oops. That was really not the fault of the tire. I was being excessively hard that day.  :-[
