FJ40 vs PU axles for TracKick SAS
« on: February 17, 2006, 10:21:04 AM »
Local yard has both. From what I understand the FJ40 axle is heavier with a larger R&P. Maybe overkill. I think this info right. Please correct if I am wrong. What would you recommend?

Toyota PU 79-85  Ratios    3.70, 4.11, 4.56, 4.88, 5.29, and 5.71:1
Front  55" wms-wms, 8" R&P (pass side drop)
Front  55" wms-wms, 8" R&P (centered)

Toyota FJ40 Ratios             3.70, 4.11, 4.56, 4.88, 5.29:1
Front 57" wms-wms, 9.5" R&P (pass side drop)
Front 55" wms-wms, 9.5" R&P (pass side drop)

if it is the same price then i'd go for bigger and better, but i doubt the fj axels are the same price or cheeper ;)
toyota p/u axels are tough , as long you dont go over 35's they will hold up fine, stock.
it's what is going under m sidekick, but i'm staying with 33's so we are not modefying them at all. i'm not worried a bit.
we are going with the 5.29's cuz i think that 5.71's were too tall and the bigger the weaker when it comes to r&p gears
