The magic word of the day is "Patience".

It's like you are threading a needle in the dark only no blood is drawn in the process.

Just keep playing with it.  You'll know when it pops in.

Front or back?  I have seen backs that require a bit of a tap with a hammer (lightly) to get them all the way in.  Was it tough to take out?  Any chance of a bent housing, its pretty common with Samurai rears.

its in the front is there a chance if the front housing being bent it wont go in? i cant see it bent so i dont think it is bent that bad that i wont allow the shaft to go in. and yes it was hard to get the first inch but this is a new third member or chunk so now im kinda stumpt and almost out of time. is it safe to put it together with out a axle shaft just to put it on a trailer and take it to my new house or will i reck something in side??

you don't need front axles to move or drive it.

Just remember that you don't have an axel shaft in there before you go wheeling again.   ;D

You should be able to feel when it is ready to slide in that last little bit.  You might have to rotate the shaft to get the splines lined up correctly.
