it's about time someone releases a kit for these things.  My choice will be LC 60 series axles.  A little wider and i believe more stout than standard pickup diffs.  I've been itching for a straight axle for quite a while now, and i've got just the right vehicle for it.

At least it doesn't look very complicated so it may not be super expensive, although they'll be able to set the benchmark ($$$) for how much to sell it for since no one else offers anything similar.

My biggest concern would be what type of gear ratio you'd have to run if using the standard t-case the kick comes with.  31's of 5.12's already seems bad enough and i know most toys are running gears just in the 4.xx range.

It is good to see someone bring out a SAS kit for guys who can not build one themselves but to be honest SAS is over rated :P.
And yes I have built one, and yes it has been designed and built correctly with correct geometry - camber, castor, pinion angle, link placement etc etc.
And yes it sits on 37" Wranglers ::) and it peforms VERY well but IFS has some big advantages over SAS and I am going back.
For most of the stuff we do here in NZ I beleive IFS will perform a lot better ;D

Hello,

I counted just the johnny joints.....16,That would be almost $700...OMG!!!.The reason I've tought about it is swapping in a 4.3 V6 and not braking it when I want to rip on it.

This topic should really have its own thread but I will chime in my little piece.  I really think IFS and SAS are about presonal preference. I think of it like the automatic and manual transmision debate. There are enough upgrades to build an IFS kick to run as strong an reliable as most any SAS swap you would do to a kick. A store bought SAS and a store bought IFS build are probabally going to be more similar in price than you would think. The upside to an IFS build can be done in stages though.

As for the toy axles brent is using, I think that toy axles are a good choice for the swap. They are cheap, plenteful, and upgradeable. LC 60 series axles may be a better choice, I would bet that you could put the bracket on those axles instead. Im sure brent isnt supplying the axles. The steering may be a little different.

Mike, help me out here a bit.. I KNOW I prefer the ride of IFS, and I really haven't had any problem going places SA folks go.. but I don't (Can't) really rock climb it much..  Help me defend my IFS...   My main likes are the Diff being out of harms ways, and having such a nice approach angle with nothing hanging down in front...  but coils and SA solves that too..

I just wanted to hear other IFS fans tell me what they like about IFS over SA...

Hi Quaddawg,

Sorry I have taken a while getting back to you.

SAS - A well set up SAS front end gives great articulation. SAS is not always stronger than IFS - that is a mith used by SAS freaks who do not know better. Remember that even SAS set ups have weak examples. Birfields - there is a belief that Birfields are weaker than UJ set ups - BULL SHIT >:( We have guys over here running Nissan front ends with 4500lb rigs running 300hp motors with plenty of torque, open and locked ( ARB in or out ) and 35" aggresive tyres ( Simex, Boggers etc ) and the Birfields take all the punishment they recieve. Interesting to note though that the OE Birfields are stronger than any aftermarket offering ???

IFS - These can be built strong - Nissan, Toymotor are good donors for upgrades. My old Nissan 720 had IFS with a welded diff and ran 31's ( big for back then ) and took a pile of abuse and never failed once ;D
IFS Advantages - you can get way more clearance under the cross member than SAS ( when using the same sized tyre ) - really handy when running through deep ruts ( which we do a lot over here ) and the space between the tyres is very clean ( no obstructions hanging down ). SAS set ups tend to "drag" the diff through the mud instead of sitting above it ( ala IFS ). It is always easier to get through something if you stay above the crap instead of trying to push your way through it.

There are heaps more pro's and con's so maybe we should start a new thread and really get people fired up.

rear through most of this thread. I have a sammy and a sidekick. I have been thinking about the calmini IFS lift for my kick. However, I would prefer a SAS swap with yota axles. Is the TT SAS kit a rumor or has it been confirmed, any idea when it will be avaliable?

Thanks.

I am new here to the site.  Hello everyone.  I have a 1990 tracer and I will be doing a solid axle swap on it.  I am using toyota axles for it.  This one will be my off road only ride.  I have another 1990 that is the same as my first one but it will be my daily driver.  I think I am going to use the coil springs front and rear with new link bars.  My other option is to run coil overs.  I am trying to do this a cheap as possible.  I will keep you all posted.  Very cool site.
