Real squirly in the rain?
« on: June 27, 2005, 02:51:26 AM »
Ok, I dont have clicking when going around cornors, of corse i have an exhaust leak so i probly would not hear it. no i was going along yesterday and slowed down to get on the onram to the freeway gave it a little gass, and the arse slid right out from under it, and here i am on simi wet pavement doing a 360 spin going 15Mph?  good tires with 90% treat, street tires,  Now the 95 tracker that i had had a good strong motor and i could get it to spin the back tire, and i tryed to get it to slide sideways, but it would just spin straigh, now the sidekick, will break the tires loos at about 2k in first, and on a wet road i can keep um going into 3rd and not go over 3500 rpm???  and i can do dookies on a wet parking lot?  anyone have a simmilar, are these things just squirly on the wet pavement?  any way i need to open up the diff and see if there is a locker in it.

Well a long dry spell can give you ice
like slippery conditions, and good street
tires can be crap in the wet too, you
need to look up the traction number
and the wear spec to get a good feel for
wet street traction, as far as the arse end
comming around, kind of normal with a
Track/Kick, and a locker makes it about
500% worse, until you get the hang of
how to drive it power on and sliding

Well it drives like it has a locker,  familiar fealing to me, mustang - 57 chevy the lowerd sub,  would really kik Arse if it already has one, the track was squirly but this thing is straigh up unruly in corners some of the times, but i have been driveing a front drive for almost 2 years, and the track was just a LOT mellower in the rain, the tires are wildcontry all terain,  i need to get new tires now i UM  gashed the side of one on a rock ::) well it wheels really nice and drives awsome.  "in a straigh line" or on dry roads. but on a wet day you can have  almost as much fun in an empty parking lot as you can in a mud pit LOL

when i 1st got my vit, i could lose the tail in the wet easily, BUT i would not have 100% control, and it was not predictable 100% of the time too.

its more inertia drift, where you have a small bit of momentum into a corner and the tail will swing out. this is best dealt with no *more* gas, and no braking, just counter steer, and straighten up.

sometimes if i had enough speed behind me on dry roads, i could stomp on 2nd and lose the tail end, but extremely scary, and way way before any form of lift was introduced.

now with the locker, i can slide around on the wet roads with ease, little throttle, and a whole heap more control than i ever had. keep in mind, a SWB will tend to swap ends more readily. i have found myself many a times in a situation facing 180* into oncoming traffic (slow speeds)

and at the *legal* street meet some nights, i can throw my vit around, 180's, donuts, and figure 8's and put about 80% if not more of the Ricers to shame!

i dont like to do it much on the dry bitumen, i tell you it eats the MT/Rs up like grated cheese! but the slightest bit of moisture, and you can probably bet that i'm out sliding around corners on my way to the MUD!

*hmmm, i wonder if this has anything to do with me needing a new clutch*

so i guess the answer is yes, the little zooks will most definately get tail happy on anything wet or slippery. thats all good, its the amount of control you have thats not always great.

my vit weighs in at 1007kg, me in it, and a full tank of fuel.

Well if a locker is not in the rear end one will be shortly!!

I know the first time I put my tires up to the proper psi (not 12psi) the very first corner was a japanese drifting video in the making......the only problem was it was at work and all the supervisors were watching ......oops

they did not like it when I pass and said " shit that is alot of fun!!!!"    " see how long I held it?" no 180 but definately 90 for a 100 feet or so.
