Toyota Rearends.....
« on: March 04, 2006, 06:42:16 PM »
Hello,

I just talked to a guy who has a 82 Toyota,No motor or tranny. 4" lift springs,5.33 gears with lockers for $350 !!!!! The frame is rusted in two, three or may-be four......What all should I take off it because I think we are going to strip it there...I don't want the whole truck and he said he knew someone that wanted the rest....Is that a deal or what!!!!

Thanks Tom K.

I would question the gearing.. Toyota does not have a 5:33... they have 3:90,4:10/11, 4:38,4:56,4:88,5:29,5:71

if the gearing's different just put the front axle on the zuk as well.. just take absolutely everything that could possibly have a use! If you end up having no use for a part you could always give it away or possibly sell it.

Hello agian,

I've ask him to pull the centers out and check on the lockers and count the teeth...He said he could turn one wheel and the other went the other way....but he said the drive shaft was turning to....I don't think she's locked....or mine with the locker will turn both tires...LOCKER MEANS LOCKED!!!I think the guy might be a little shall I say STUPID ::) ::) ::)

I know what you mean. Most of the early to mid 80s toyota solid front axle trucks around where I live are owned by white trash tweekers, and are lifted to the point where they are not safe for street use, and too high off the ground for off road use (pretty much useless). It is really too bad that all the toyotas are turned into rock crawlers, because in stock trim, they are super durable and reliable, but of course they all have been bought up and thrashed, and then the owners want $5000 (on average) for clapped out trash with 200,000 miles or more  ::)::) ???
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

I got my white trash truck for $300!  ;D  The kid I got it from was just white trash retarded.  I wanna run some mega gumbos, but that lift thing gets ridiculous.  Sawzalls were invented for a reason.

I got my 83 for $300.  It had a hole in the #1 piston but it ran OK for about 6 months until the compression became zero.  Then I got a Celica for free, put the motor in the truck and it is back on the road.

Where are all these things located. You are lucky to find one for $1000 around here (northern california), and it is usually destroyed and not running. I hope this one deal comes through. This kid at my work said his dad has a 1982 yota, and it needs a transmission rebuild because the synchros on 1st and 2nd are bad. He says it is hella ghetto, but then he told me that his dad might just give it to me for FREE!!! :D. He has yet to talk to his dad about it, but I definitely told him I am interested.

Mine had an engine out of a '79 half put in it, so I finished up the install, changed the parts needed, and did a crap load of other work to it.
Maybe I've spent another 300 now?  The battery cost me 60, and I think that's the most I spent on anything for it.
Free is a good price.  Pay a little if you have to, having a straight axle's awesome alone.
