I welded my buddys this weekend and he seemed get around great, exept for his non power steering issue. just wonderd if anyone else had done it with any sucess?  I would like to do it to my daily driver but it has automatic hubs, didnt know if it would be a road hazard.

Yeah auto-locking hubs and a welded front dif could lead to some interesting suprises... It might be time to scour the salvage yards for a set of Asins.

Are you in Kansas City??  If so there are a couple of Samurais at the pick-and-pull at 12th and Osage in KCK.  Last I looked, two still had their hubs and two didn't (guess who has a set...)

I have two trackers one is stock with 31's and the other I'm still building but I'm putting toy axels in. Does it give you much trouble? Or should I just spend the $ on a lock right. The locker for the toy axel is like $500

Welded front sounds plain silly.  A lock-right would be a much less damaging option.

I think your probably right but I break front diff housings like they are made of plastic, I'm not sure if a lockright would survive.

Any Asin from a another Samurai should bolt right on (with the snap-ring in place on the end of the axle...).  No knuckle removal at all!

I did it on lil Suzi when I lived in Memphis, It worked great going straight but was hard to turn. I switched over to a lockright in a Samurai carrier, much better. I see that trailtough has a limited slip for the sidekick front for a reasonable price that would work as well. If you are on a severe budget you can tri a poor mans possi by adding extra washers, I think their called thrust washers, to preload the spider gears so they don't turn easily.

On 36's its a bear to turn, but doable...But, thats why I'm doing power steering. 
I MIGHT do a detroit later on, or hydro assist.  I'm gonna test it some more and see how it does.
I will admit that a locker in front is easier to turn than a welded front. 
But if your way short on cash and want a locked front......
