I was bidding on a Magellan meridian gold GPS, and right at the last second I was outbidded >:(. the price was at 152.50, and then when there was 25 seconds left, I was outbidded >:(. The only reason this makes me mad is because I had been following it for 3 days, and then it was taken out from under me by someone who happened to bid at the last minute(more like second). Now for the funny part ;D. They paid way more than it was worth ;D ;D. They paid almost $170, and with shipping, it would be nearing 190. For less than that, you can get one on ebay that has been refurbished by Magellan and has a 3 month, or optional 3 year warranty. The one I was bidding on was new in box (supposedly) and had no warranty. Overall, they paid too much.

not to be rude, but so?
Im sure everyone has gotten overbidded at one point in their life.

The guy who said "You shouldnt be bidding on
ebay if you are not willing to walk away." is correct.

I really dont mind snipers.  Being one of them, I find them funny.
I mean just imagine youre out hunting.  Youve been tailing this animal
for hours mind you and youve set yourself up in a cozy little spot.
It starts to walk really slowly and you set up your shot exactly when
its gonna take its 2nd step.  But BAM!  Another hunter kills it in 1 step
and youre just too late.  Can you really get mad?  Because you have to
respect the fact that this guy just OUT DREW you.  The only thing that comes to
my mind is "Dammit!  Now I have to tail another one for a few more hours"

But what I really hate...
is when a BIDDING WAR starts and these ignorants start bidding
against each other when its HOURS or even DAYS before the whole
thing ends thus driving up the price astronomically.

Lesson #9 of eBay Sniping:
Bid just ONCE.  Just seconds when the auction is about to end.
Remember youre trying to get the LOWEST possible price on it.
Never let them know youre interested until the LAST SECOND.

"and that concludes the lesson for today..."

Thanks, that is good advice ;). I was sort of new to ebay, but I now realize that to beat the silly game of ebay and get things at a good price, I have to not bid on something until it is right at the last 6-10 seconds. What I do now is I watch a whole bunch of them, and at the last minute, I will see if the price is right, and if it is, I will bid, and I am by no means not willing to walk away. If I cant get a good price bidding, then I will look for a good price on buy it now items, and if there is no deal there, then I will look elsewhere(stores, other websites, etc) and if I cant find it for a good deal anywhere, then it probably is not worth it.

Why go to all that trouble?? didn't you see the sniping site advice we posted??  It does it automatically..  who cares what the current price is.. the bidding is automatic.. enter them in your sniping program and forget it...

That is exactly what I used to do until I started sniping.  It does the exact same thing for you automatically.

Well, some of us prefer to do it "manually"
(personally I wouldnt want a robot hunting for me)
Plus, some of the programs take percentages of what you win.
And some just charge you for bidding.
Honestly, I dont use eBay that much for it to be worth it.

That is the way I felt too.  I only started using a sniper program because they gave me 10 free bids (winning bids).  That lasted me about a year and a half after I placed more than 100 bids trying to snipe stuff at bargain prices.

Watching several auctions and bidding during the last minute works pretty good, but with automated sniping you can do it on a larger scale and it takes less time.

Youre absolutely right.  If I bidded a lot I would no
doubt utilize a sniping program to its fullest potential.
But theres a good and a bad.
The good is that you dont have to be there to get the job done.
The bad is that its flawed and able to be outbidded.
(of course it all depends how high youre willing to bid)

But if done correctly, you CAN outsnipe a program.
You just have to time it right.
