Track/Kick off the shelf exhausts?
« on: March 30, 2006, 07:49:31 PM »
Keep in mind that I live 25 miles from the nearest 4-lane highway and it feels like the ends of the earth sometimes.

Mandrel bending is practically non-existant.  The one place up here that does it wants an arm, a leg, and another appendage I'd prefer to keep. :-X

The regular exhaust shops want $$$ for regular crimp bent stuff.  So that leaves me in a goofy situation.

When I turn my Tracker on in the morning it puffs smoke in 3 places.  The cat is original at 150k.  I've got at least one oxygen sensor bad and my exhaust just looks crappy.  I'd like to replace everything from the manifold back with a free flowing 2" setup.  However due the circumstances mentioned above I can't get it done locally.

Are there any good off the shelf exhausts for Trackers/Sidekicks?  I know of the Calmini exhaust but have heard mixed reviews of it. ???

My exhaust is in the same condition, I'd like to replace everything and not have to worry about it for a few years. It is my DD for 125KM round trip. I'd like a little more power, but don't want to have to wear ear plugs. I wonder how loud the complete calamini setup header-pipes-muffler unit is? Not cheap either |removethispart|@$350 US. Or just put on another stock setup. Are there any other front to back setups out there?

I'm using the Calmini set up, from the Header back and it's not loud at all. It did free up the motor a bit and lets it rev better. Watch the muffler though, it hangs below the frame rail an inch or so and I've wacked mine a couple of times and it is starting to rattle some.

Sorry about taking so long to get back to you on this, it was so nice out finally, I had to indulge my other passion and go for a ride. Anyway The Calmini system fit properly, seems to be made of standard exhaust tubing, ie. not stainless but ok none the less.  The muffler and cat are off the shelf items, but the header is very well built, and ceramic coated. For the price I think it's a pretty fair deal. You may be able to find the indivdual pieces a bit cheaper if you know what to look for, but they pull it all together for you, bend the tubes, and it all bolts up the way it should and works and sounds great in my opinion.

Cool, think I might just go that route.  Any idea how long the muffler they provide is?

:) The muffler itself measures 13" long not including the 2 1/2" long inlet and 2 1/2" long outlet. It's 8" wide and has a 4" cross section.

Cool.  Thinking I might get a cherry bomb/glass pack and put that in place of the muffler.  Little freer flowing and different.

Thanks for the reviews and measurements. 8)

Bent, what about exhaust tone? Do you find the setup much louder than stock? Calamini says its still fairly quiet at cruising speeds. I put on a lot of miles and dont need a headache.

I find the exhaust note pleasant, it's loudest at about 2500 rpm, but not obnoxious. At hiway cruising speed, 70mph it sounds great and isn't loud at all.
