Brake upgrade

 :) Finished the upgrade to four door brakes the other day, and got to say for any of you guys contemplating this, DO IT! The change is substantial, power of braking MUCH better. I sourced my parts from Pep Boys, not cheap, but I went for the Raybestos Stainless steel vented rotors, Raybestos pads, with Tokico Calipers. I also replaced the brake lines with braided stainless steel for a much better feel. I 've changed out the fluid, (mighty Vac, and damn is my hand sore!) but still have what I think is too much pedal travel. The braking action is firm, especially at the bottom of pedal travel, but still too much travel for my tastes. Any way to remedy this? Thanks guys for any input. BTW, I did bleed the calipers and left rear wheel cylinder from farthest to nearest master cylinder. I did not bleed the master cylinder. Could this be my problem?

So are the 4 door rotors different (bigger) too?

I think the problem could be with bleeding the master cylinder, but if you pump the pedal and it doesn't change the feel then you probably don't have air in it.

Make sure to adjust the rear brakes.

Thanks Guys, No change in feel after pumping the pedal, but I will try adjusting the rears.

i would check if the master cylinders between the 2 door and the 4 door are the same or not the 4 door one could be slightly bigger in diameter internally

I checked the manual for rear brake adjustment ( factory /dealer manual not the cheesey shiltons ) and it said , and I paraphrase " pump pedal 5 times, back up with brake on." So I did and viola, nice firm pedal. Stops like your throwing out an anchor now. :) :D ;D

i would like to know what brand were the braided lines and the part #'s if you have them.

Hey Derek, Not sure, got 'em off ebay under Geo tracker, ebay motors, parts. They come from Canada. Did have a minor problem though, the brake lines they sent must have been for a slightly different model as the fit was a bit off to say the least and I had to run to the parts store for a few things to make them work. The left front on my 95 tracker is longer than the right and the lines they sent were the same length. But, they did send  two rears, and you only need one, so I combined the extra short rear with the front with a short piece of steel brake tubing and two fittings too make em work. Better than trying to ship em back to Canada.

I guess I'll have to give that a shot.  BTW, you're right on about using the factory manual.  I've got factory manuals for my vehicles and they're definitely worth the extra money.
