Could be anything on your driveline through to the diffs :S. Could be your transfer case most likely second after problems within the bell housing (clutch/shafts), mabey a snapped or sheared input shaft to the box from the motor. Was there any funny sounds when it happended. Can you hear funny sounds or anything at all now while it doesn't work.

Once some mates thought it'd be funny if they snap strapped me out of a bog real snappy like, end result me sitting in cabin thinking WTF DID I DO NOTHING IS WORKING. Turns out I was snatched so hard that the transfer case jumped into netural without me knowing or I accidently hit it during the snatch somehow in the flash of things, but doesn't work in your case as your tried other ranges :(
=D

What are you running? If you have a sami it could be that the T-case is getting stuck in neutral, therefore you go nowhere. You can pop it back into place with a large screwdriver. While you were at it check your shift sheet. My buddy just had that issue with his. The shift sheet was shot and it would drop into neutral all on its own. Replaced the sheet, problem solved.

OK i think i have narrowed it down mates , i turned the engine on , put the clutch in put it in first ,
didnt move so i left it in gear and looked under the car , and THE drive shaft  coming from the motor going into the transfer case is moving like it should but the power is only goin into the transfer case and not out onto the other drive shafts to the diffs and tyres :'(.?????????????????????????????????????

does this mean i need a new transfer case or something????

any help apreciated thanks
 ;)

I believe that Takai has the correct diagnosis!

Can you move your Transfer Case shifter?  My bet is that you can't!

This type of failure is very common and VERY inexpensive to fix!

There is a plastic bushing that the Transfer Case lever sit in.  Over time it disintegrates causing the shifter linkage to fall into a "non-standard" Neutral position - very much like what you are describing!

I actually had this very problem during a test drive last Thursday.  With the help of the owner, we had the Transfer Case back in 2-High and on it's way back to his house in less than 20 minutes.

Go to Ack's FAQ (the link is in my signature, below) and do a search for transfer case in the FAQ Forum for links to two articles with plenty of pics to describe what you need to do.  The first article will help the most as it shows how to do the fix with the transfer case in the truck.

Hope this helps!

IF you are seeing rotation on the intermediate shaft but none on the rear output of the transfer case AND you can sucessfully shift the transfer case into all modes (you can move the shifter forward, backwards and side to side), then you have a major problem with the transfer case.
