« on: April 13, 2006, 10:22:13 AM »
I did a search and didn't see what i was looking for so i thought id ask. i have a turbo 22re motor out of a yota and i m going to put it in my sami. i really can't find a lot of info on this swap. i would like to see some pics if any of you have it. or even a 22re swap would help.

T

PS. i got the motor,5 speed and harness for 600.
PPS. i have a build 1.3 right now and its jsut not enough.

$600 is a good deal for a turbo 22re. I havent swapped one of those, but I have owned a few toyotas and know a bit about them and their engines. Right now I am trying to obtain a 1982 toyota 4wd longbed SR5 with a bad transmission so I can fix the trans and have a truck to move my quad and dirtbike. I thought it would be neat to put a 22re in one of the early toyotas with a carb, but there is a lot of wiring to be done, and you have to ruin (disassemble to the point of no return) both the wiring harness of the truck and the engine.
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

A member of my old club had a Sami that had a Toyota 22r and the entire driveline transplant. I do not know the details of what was involved, but yes, it has been done.

One thing just to keep in mind is Turbo Lag, and if you are spooling that thing out to make a torque I would thing you would be burning clutches left and right. So what is it worht to you, Cool Factor? Heck YES! Practical? Not so much... lol Keep me informed I wanna do the 4.3/Tracker.  ;D

well i do know about the "lag" and its not a very big turbo so it should spool at about 2500rpms, which is jsut about perfect. and for the most part i don't do very much crawling so it won't play too much into the equasion. but ill keep all you guys posted, ive already got the wiring harness out and im getting the motor out this weekend. ill post some pics of whats going on, i had to cut the top off of the donor runner cuz it was rolled.(ok well i didn't have too, but why not it was fun ;D)

PS. if any of you guys have web sites with info on them about this swap or a 22re swap, let me know. thanks
