I have a 1998 Sidekick Sport JLX, 146000km.  This started a little while ago <2 months.  Occasionally when you would try to acclerate it would start to hesitate and buck, but not all of the time and more often it would not do it, probably about once or twice a week.  Now, sometimes it will stall, but again not very often but is slowly getting more frequent, and is hard to get started again (kinda like it is flooded), unless you let it sit for a bit, 15 to 30 minutes.  The engine light has come on now.  This is the first time for the engine light.  It is getting looked at tomorrow, just looking for some ideas as to what could be the problem.

I had mine running lean yesterday (no brake m/c fitted). It ran a higher idle speed and popped a bit in the exhaust but didn't stall. There are a lot of things that it could be, might be something as simple as a loose or split vacuum hose. Pulling the codes is the first thing to do and you have that in hand already.

According to the Suzuki dealership here in Winnipeg, the only way to get the code ouot of the vehicle is with a scanner.  Is this true.  I know that other vehicles can have the code pulled without a scanner.  My idle speed has not changed at all since I got the vehicle a year ago.
Idles at roughly 750 rpm.

  Autozone will pull the codes for you for free.

There is no AutoZone here in Winnipeg.

Thanks to all who replied.  Turns out to be an intermittent camshaft sensor.  Won't be getting the part from the dealer here though, as they want my first born for it.  Am going to look at an aftermarket.  Again, thanks to all who replied.
