my first post!... an electrical question.
« on: April 20, 2006, 09:56:07 PM »
hey guys, i'm workin' on my third zook right now, it's my first sidekick though, the other two were sammi's.  anyhow, I spent some serious time with the body (mostly rebuilding the firewall) and i redid the exhaust (still need to change cat and downpipe) but to safety i need the headlights and dash lights to work.
when I have the switch set for running lights, everything including dash works but the high beams don't.  in the headlight setting the high beams work fine, but it seems the dash lights don't work.  is this gonna be a major wiring problem, a switch problem, or hopefully it's just a relay i can change.
I'm not fond of dealing with wiring, especially diagnosis.
thanks guys!

I don't know but as its headlights you could try a search for dim/dip unit.

Pardon my ignorance--when you say "running lights" what do you mean?  Are you referring to extra lights added to the zuk?  If you have added to the wiring a schematic diagram would be helpful.  If not, what year and model do you have?  A factory schematic diagram would be helpful in diagnosing the problem.

This could be one of those (the light switch grounds the lights to work threads) tough ones.  ;D

no... it's still factory, it's an 89 sidekick 1.6 8v.
the switch has 3 settings, off, headlights and headlights and dashlights... off works (obviously hehehe), headlights work (high beams also), but in dashlights mode the dashlights and lowbeams work but no high beams.  I'm perplexed.  the high beams do work,  when in dashlight mode but only in intermediate mode (when you pull lever towards yourself)  but not when you push the lever away (it doesn't stay in that position or turn the lights on.  when in headlight mode though it stay's in high beam position when selected and works when you pull as well.
