I've heard of it being done successfully.

Considered some of that "hammer tone" paint?  Dries to a "hammered" (kinda looks dimpled) finish that covers rust and the like and from what I hear is pretty resilient.

I know the feeling. nothing to do so creativity and boredom take place and before you know it, something expensive or rare gets broken just in the name of something to do. As for the rims, I would get them powder coated. It is a bit pricey, but it is very durable ;D
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

Thanks for the replys. no money for powder coat. i was considering the hammer finish, the only reason im going toput bedliner on em is because i have some kickin around and i think black would look better then the grey. while im at it i minds well take my moms acura out of the garage jack her up and tend to some rust spots underneth. ill try the beliner on the rims and let you guys know how it comes out.

would the possible uneven build up of bedliner make them kinda hard to balance?

Yeah, that is a potential downfall of this.  However if you did it right I think it'd be fine and even if you did get a bit thick on one "side" it'd still probably be less "imbalanced" than your average un-true steel wheel.
