reverse lights stuck on
« on: April 28, 2006, 09:56:51 AM »
Hi, I have a 93 sidekick. My reverse lights are stuck on in any gear. They wont turn off. I looked in the Haynes manual and all I could find was the brake light switch. Not sure if I need to mess with that, or not. Thanks, any info or help.

If you pull that switch and the light stays on, there's a short in the wiring.  Light goes out its the switch.
Similar set up for both the maual & auto trans.

Depending on where you live....
I'd check the harness connector behind the driver side tail light, you may have corrosion inside the connector, which resulted in a short in the wiring. I had a similar problem, my reverse lights would turn on when my park lights were on, and visa-versa. I temporarily connected the wires together with butt-connectors, and eventually replaced the harness connectors using solder and heat shrink.

Hello All,

OK I had a problem with mine not working.....I tried all the above no luck...I bet your wires are melted together on the tranny...Mine were melted in two...If you go to the drivers side the switch is on the top side of the tranny. I have a 2" body lift so I can see mine from the engine bay. The wires run along the top of the tranny to the pass. side of the motor. There is a connector at the back of the intake. I would start by disconnecting this connector. I used a small flat screw driver to release the clip. If you release it and they go out than your problem is in the short harness from the connector to the switch,or the switch is bad. The wires for mine were red and yellow. There is also a connector about 6" from the switch where it mounts to the tranny but it's hard to reach, That's where mine where melted at. If you like you can call me 304-844-6637 and I'll try to help more. It's only about 1.5 foot from the connector near intake to the switch. Mine is a 90 model 5 speed.
