POR15

or

Chassis Saver

or

Wurth Rust products..

I personally recommend the Chassis Saver  Silver undercoat, with semi gloss top coat.. you will NEVER have rust problems.. NEVER...

Here is a link for Chassis Saver

I used Chassis Saver by Magnet paints.. It is holding up just fine.. at the same time, I used the leftover on my trailer and it STOPPED active rust, with NO pretreatment or cleaning.. (not recommended)

I have some more spots to do, but the ones I did a few months ago don't show any sign of rust starting back up..

as a preventative treatment for a NON-rusted frame/chassis componants,  EITHER product will do you just fine.

READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS on whatever you decide to use.

I used to use POR-15, and it is GREAT..... but..........  I like Chassis Saver better... I have read a LOT of reviews of the two, and it seems that everyone prefers Chassis Saver..

BUT... POR-15 is a wonderful product... they cost about the same.

The reason I switched was really just an accident.  I ran out of POR-15 and didn't have time to order any, and noone carries it around here.. mail order only.. there is a local paint supply that carries Chassis Saver, and it came highly recommended by the owner of the paint store... SO... I tried it, and never looked back..

You can't go wrong with either... OR the Wurth product.. all three are VERY similar..

I have been considering undercoating my Sami before it gets infected by the rust virus. How hard is it to apply whilst the body is still on?

About as hard as it would be to clean the undersides well and then painting the undersides with a brush (or gun if you have the equipment).

I've been using POR15 until now and haven't had 100% luck with it.  In some places it's held up fine but in others I have had reservations.  Some of it has shrunk at the ends, a problem with POR15 that I've heard about before.  The shrinkage often leads to the edges peeling up and well, I only wanted to do this once...you know?

Now I have this stuff called Rust Encapsulator from Eastwood Products.  I heard a few car/autobody guys recommend it on the radio and did some research and it got favorable reviews.  What got me was one where the author did a test on a hood vs POR15 and guess what...the POR15 section shrank and the Rust Encapsulator didn't.  That said I haven't used it yet so personal reviews are nil.  I'll be using it this summer and will let you guys know. 8)
