Weber Carb Install !HELP!
« on: May 02, 2006, 11:38:52 AM »
Hello all, I'm new to this forum, and would greatly apprciate all your help...here is this situation

I have had my Samurai for the last 3 yrs, and I just recently (as in this week) had it completely overhauled, and went and did a Weber carb install. Well It works and turns on, but runs rough, and spews black smoke upon throttle, and the plugs are getting fouled BAD within minutes of running. Now this carb set up was pieced together by me over the years to save $, the adapter plate fom one place, the carb from another, and the linkage from Weber. Now -I was told that the carb had come from a Jeep of some sort. I have reason to believe that my problem is not the jetting in the carb, but rather plugging the wrong vacuum lines or in other words the vacuum line stuff is a mess. Now I wish someone who has done this can send me in the right direction with either pics, or instructions on how to do this vacuum line plugging corectly. Now if this doesnt solve anything, then I guess I'll order correct jets for the carb(that is if they are different)....

PLEASE HELP, as I am at my wits end!!!

Are you installing a 32/32 or a 32/36? And do you any under the hood pics? I got rid of my 32/36 (put in a 16v) but, my roomate still runs his 32/32. It sounds like you are running really rich. Did you adjust the fuel/air before or after the idle?

its a 32/36 , and the well I'll admit I didn't tune the carb and prolly wouldn't know where to start. But it does idle fine, not high reving or anything. It does have a slight shake to it, bit nothing major. Also I could get some pics tonight.....

No problem. Glad I could help!

When I put the Weber on my 1st Samurai, I lost the instructions to it and couldn't figure out all the vacuum lines and such. That site helped a lot for me.

I didn't use a fuel pressure regulator on mine. Sorry, I can't help with that.

I ran one at about 2.5 to 3 psi. The Weber can develop problems when you run with to high of a fuel pressure.

also,

http://www.izook.com/tech/samurai/engine/weber/weber.htm

this is by Kevin "Sarge" Lafferty who is the Samurai Weber GURU in these parts.  I have a 32/36 set up by Sarge.  I was the "guinea pig" in developing this article.

I also run an electric fuel pump and a pressure regulator set around 1-1.5 pounds.  A someone else posted, you don't want too much pressure on the input of a weber in this setup.

Hope this helps!

I used that article also when I was attempting to adjust the Weber. As I still couldn't get it to sit right, I had to bow my head and call my Dad for help. He can adjust a carb in his sleep.....
