Sammy ignition modification: Worth It?
« on: May 06, 2006, 05:11:43 AM »
'94 Sammy 1300 stock engine (Couple of mods in the pipeline). I've had no problems with the current ignition setup, but being keen on helping her to "be all that she can be", I'm considdering an electronic ignition conversion. Are they worth it? Do they really make much of a differance?
If so, which type and or brand.
Thanks guys.

A sammy is electronic ignition. Do you mean switching to a different type with a higher output or an adjustable advance curve? You could try advancing the ignition timing a few degrees as you may be able to get better pick up without pinking. It depends on what octane fuel it was originally designed for and what you are using. Here in the UK a number of Zuk models were designed to run on 92 octane, our base fuel is 95 a so couple more degrees is usually no problem as long as the engine is in good shape and the distributor and its gears aren't worn.

Yes. What I meant was a change in module and/or an uprated coil. (maybe one of those 'multi spark' systems.) I can understand the reasoning that a higher voltage would enable a larger plug gap - a bigger spark - better combustion - more power (theoretically).
How much of a differance does this really make though. 8)
