calmini or trailtough gearing for trackick

hey guys, looking to order the trailtough rockmonster 4.24:1 gearset next week but wanted to hear some peoples experiences with them. any problems? is it low enough? would you have done anything differnt? etc.

just after opinions and experiences as its alot of $$$'s to get a set down here to aus

i just got my trailtough gears in about an hour and a half agow, pretty siple install,a little clearanceing of the case,but it wasnt hard, havent gotten to use them yet,if your gona order a 2wd low kit would be a good idea to do them at the same time! ;)

but it may take a wile to get it,the 2wd low, ben on bo since december!

I have a set in my 96 auto and they rock, you will not be dissapointed.

1988 sammy  spoa with cj's rear and rears up front, 4.16, rear locker, 31x 12.50 boggers, full cage by migoffroad .com
the silver sammy is mine, they use it as a display for there cage work.

Hey Antt as you know I got Sam to put some of his in mine and I'm rapt. All the available gears are about the same ratio and it's all good  ;D Well OK I can't do anymore high speed low range driving but hey it's so much better everywhere else. As you're probably going to do the install yourself the Trail Tough will be cheapest. Just get them to mark it 4x4 parts as there is less duty payable. I getting some 5.83's for mine now  8)  yeah baby! I'm going to get my top end back.

If you look at it, both the Calmini and the TT are 4.24:1 - I'm guessing that TT just copied Calmini's design, which has been in production for years.  I have the Calmini set.  Yes, you can still do high-speed wheeling in low range, as long as you consider 20 MPH (in 5th gear) to be high speed!  Those babies are LOW!  I love 'em!

Take some precautions, when you're "clearancing" the case - you have to scrape or file some of the aluminum off.  When I did it, I covered the hole the gear goes into, with duct tape, to keep filings out, then washed the filings out with solvent.

i'm actually getting the guy who is sponsoring me to bring them in, so all is good on the import front

I thought you were going to do duel cases in yours ?


I put Calmini 4.24s in mine, I went with Calmini as I was ordering other products from them at the time and there gears are proven to be reliable compared to the local version down under  ;).

T/T had just released there 4.24s at an incredibly low price when I got mine and if I wasn't ordering the other stuff from Calmini I probably would have given T/Ts gears a shot first.

At moment I'm waiting like CJ for my 5.83's to arrive to bring back the high range to compensate for the 32 mongrels.

was going to go the duals, and have already started cutting the cases. but my sponsor brought these to my attention for a very nice price, so am seriously considering it.

the only drama i'm having is the fact that i'lll still have the slip yokes to deal with when i do the hilux diff swap in a few months, so not sure what way to go ???

Antt, what tires are you going to run when you do the SAS? How about MQ diffs and duals?

31-32's on the road and at least a 35 offroad

i already have  the lux rear diff and have a front lined up it looks like
