Am I Crazy?
« on: May 23, 2006, 11:41:56 AM »
???I've got a lot vacation time, so I requested a couple weeks off at the end of September to go back out west on another adventure. Last year, My buddy and I took our Harleys on a 10 day ride around the southwest, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. Crazy weather, but an epic ride, and a great trip. We did however tow our bikes out to Colorado Springs in an enclosed trailer behind my Tundra. This year I've convinced my wife to DRIVE out to Utah in the Tracker, to go exploring in the Canyonlands.  Can't tow it since I've sold my Tundra. I've been out there on dirtbikes a few times and on the last trip rented a Jeep and had a blast. My Plan is to tow a very small trailer with my offroad wheels and tires on it, drive out and  back on my 225 at's. Swap wheels and drop the trailer when we get there and go camping and exploring for 8 or 9 days. My tracker has 72k on the clock, runs great, has ac, killer tunes, cruise control, and is somwhat insulated for sound. It's a 2000 mi trip each way.  Longest trip I've ever taken was 700mi. one way. It was fine. Am I Nuts for thinkin' I can drive out, go wheelin' and drive back? It's built pretty well, and I'm not particularly hard on equipment. Waddayaall think?

I drove my wife's 2 door tracker (all stock) from Alabama to Seattle a few years back.  I had about 300-400lbs in the back (we were moving), and i didn't have any problems at all.  I actually got really good mileage averaging 30mpg.

I say go for it.   The trailer idea is a good one.

I'd do it in a second if I could get my wife to go. Hell, I'd even drive my Zook out there.

I would. If your truck is reliable and you have plenty of good tunes, what is there to worry about?

Bring basic tools, oil, and anything else you think you might need... Worst comes to worst, you break a front cv wheeling, which is normaly the first to go, leave it broke and make sure you put it back in 2wd before heading home! Only thing to be careful of, dont burn your clutch 2k miles from home, and don't roll it... other than that, HAVE FUN! And take lots-o-pictures...  ;D

Hey, everyone I know thiught I was nutz for jumping in my Kick (with 270-280K miles on it at the time) and driving it to Moab for the 2005 EJS. It turned out to be one of the best trips I have been on. The Kick did fine and I saw more of the country than I had ever expected to see out of a car. ( I even got to stop in Kansas and meed a fellow Zukiworld freak 8). I think you will realy enjoy it, I know I did.

I am thinking about driving lil red down to moab next spring after driving 1000 miles with zig to go wheeling. Like he said about his moab trip, it was one of the best trips I have ever been on.

I'd do it if I had the time/money/rig to do it in
I'm sure you can find some trails to explore that arn't "hardcore" trails and still have fun.
