How many would prefer a larger Capacity Gas tank?
« on: May 24, 2006, 04:16:51 PM »
I know the Samurai has a 10.6 US gal Fuel tank. The Sidekick a 11.1 US gal [ 2 DOOR ]. Do people like the Capacity or wish they had more?

I would just settle for the gas being cheaper but a few more gallons of fuel would be nice if you could make a small tank that would work with the stock tank some how above the rear diff maybe and have it inline so you don't even know that it is there.

Yes I would love to have a bigger capacity tank. 170 miles is not far enough at all;especially in the back country.

For a larger capacity samurai tank, contact Petroworks www.petroworks.com for their polyethylene fuel tank, holds an extra 5 gallons over stock.
Only thing I'd like to know is it could be adapted to fit in a Sidekick  ;)

I'd just like better gas mileage.  My 90 gets about 20 mpg in the summer and less in the winter.  Darn automatic!!  I've driven 2 fairly new Trackers and the best they got was 25 mpg.  Those of you that are getting 30 must have manuals.

I usually get around 25-27 a gallon right now with a 96 manual.  225 is about all the more I like pushing the tank between fill-ups.

Still, it's a lot better then the 17-20 Supreme I got with the Talon.   ;D

Semi-related question but how many of us 11 gallon tank owners can only get 8-9 gallons in during a fill up?  I fill up once a week on the same day and generally go almost the same distance every time.  It seems like no matter how close to empty (or below) the needle is the thing will only take 7-9 gallons.  I got 9.5 gallons on the first fill up but the thing was EMPTY.

I know you can never truely fill them because of vapor in the tank but 2-4 gallons worth of an 11 gallon tank?

It has a very big reserve 2.1 gal or something, which i hate, I like E to be E, I usually get 9 or so a fill up, but have seen the needle go down to the 2nd line in E before and still only got close to 10g...

$400 (pluss shipping - which isn't ceap with BIG boxes) for 5 GAL of fuel?

Jerry Can. $20. Done.

Weld your own tank - Cost of material + welder = prolly $100 or less. Done.
