Ford Nine inch rear

I know this is  probally a dumb question but I am in the dark in this. WHen talking about a Ford 9 in. rear axle; what exactly is nine inches? ??? I can't seem to figure this out. THanks again

It's refering to the 9" ring and pinion in the differential.  I believe the pinion gear is 9 inches

So that's the only difference between the stock sidekick axle and the ford 9 in. axle?
How does this make such a big strength difference?

Well since the R&P are bigger they are stronger too, but I believe it has more to do with the axle shafts and splines.  The shafts are at least 30-50% larger in diameter, which is why they are stonger.

The ring gear is 9in diameter.  And is stronger due to size.  31spline shafts compared to 26.  Also the pinion uses 3 pinion bearings, helping reduce deflection.  And upgrade parts are EVERYWHERE.  There is so much aftermarket for these axles.

YOu'd need to have the axles custom cut though wouldn't you?

If from an older bronco, it's only 2 or 3 inches wider, no need to cut. -plus it's the same bolt pattern  ;)

Axles from a 73 Bronco were used and are only 3" wider than stock.

Oh and to illustrate the strength difference, here is the pick of a Suzuki 5.83 pinion gear next to a Ford 9" 5.83 pinion.

I dont see a Track/Kick breaking that.  Now you'll have a near indestructable rear.  Whatcha gonna do about the front?

Get an Anvil and use Toyota CV's that you can find at any junkyard  ;D
