axle rebuilding/ looking for advice
« on: May 25, 2006, 06:16:00 AM »
alright I did the front axle on my sammi with no problem, im in the middle of the rear, got axle shafts pulled and third member out waiting to put new third in with spool ;D,   the bearings and the spacer thing on the ends of the shafts are stubburn. i tried heating them up and beating them but they wouldnt budge. my dad suggested cutting them off with torches but i dont feel comfortable with that much heat on the axle(weak spot) anyone have this problem? what did you do? im considering taking it somewhere to get it pressed off. do the new ones need to be pressed on? any advise is greatly appreciated.

i've only ever done it with a press.  I believe they were designed only to be pressed on/off.

got another question, how do you get the new seals in past the thin metal lip? is the lip supposed to come out or should i put the seal in an oval slide it past the lip then pull it back against it?
