Starts and Idles.... no power in gear
« on: May 25, 2006, 08:41:08 AM »
OK I have spent 2 weeks getting Zuki running.   I replaced the gas tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injector.  I also did the plugs, rotor, and dist cap.  After all of that she started running.... she idles good and rev's up..... but once in gear and rolling it sputters and dies.... no power....... and ideas are greatly appriciated..... I want to run her this weekend with the three day weekend if possible.
90 Samurai 4" lift finally installed.  Now it's time for some good tires.

Should still run without an 02 sensor..

I had something simlar happen before that was a result of bad plugs/wire connections...

Thought of this after pvs post

It's a manual tranny.

I had a Mustang that did that on me. I found out the catilytic converter was clogged. I took a prybar and busted the stuff out of it and it ran great.

I came home and disconnected my O2 sensor and there seems to be no change at all..... does that indicate that the problem is there?

I wouldn't think so, you can run the car in "linp" mode w/ an O2 sensor

O2 sensor isn't used at idle or under load. Its used to self tune the ECU while under moderate loads so it takes a while before it has any effect. Given the nature of your problem I would suspect something else. Possibly ignition related, you've already done the plugs and cap so you may as well stick some new wires on there. Have you checked all the vacuum lines are clear and that none are leaking.

Well it would seem that the power problem had to do with the fact that botch front brake calipers were rusted and locked......... might cause a small power loss...........New calipers will be here tomorrow.

That is probably a really good place to start.  ;)

Don't you just hate it when you overlook the obvious (and yes I do it a lot).
