How big of tire before I have to Lift my 86 Samurai ?
« on: May 25, 2006, 09:07:29 PM »
I just bought a samurai. It is for offroad use only and I want to find near stock  size all terrain tire. All I can find are 75 series tires  in all terrain. Will a 215 75r 15 work without lifting the vehicle???? Thanks in advance for your replies.

You will have to trim your front bumper, but my brother ran on his without a problem.  :)

Even less problems once we tore the front bumper off.  :D

You can just remove the two endcaps. That how my '87 was done.

I had 235's on mine with no rubbing at all but I don't remember what the 2nd number was.

You can sort of see in the picture.  We only had to take about an inch out of the sheet metal.  I don't think he had the end caps to begin with, but I forget the year of his Sammy.

215 75's fit mine w/o trimming. The only time they rubbed was after kissing some rocks and roots with the front bumper.

There's a better chance that you'll get some miles out of 235's. My 215's turned into 31's within a year of my first off road adventure.

235's will fit if you trim the front bumper end caps. Be sure to catch the bottom corner of the steel plate the bumper fastens into.

Angle grinder with a fresh blade is all you need for the trimming. (a big hack saw and a lot more patience than I have might work)

Put the tires on, you'll see what you need to trim.

I think a lot of Stock Chevy trucks / blazers use 235 75 R15's, so they should be easy to find, innexpensive and LOTS of options. I'm going with 2" Shackle reversal - should fit nicely.
