Changes in soft-top design
« on: May 26, 2006, 11:52:01 PM »
During the years the soft-top version Sidekick was produced [ 1989-1998 ] did Suzuki make many changes to the factory hardware used for the top?? I also would like to know how long it takes a person to remove the top and how long it takes to put back up.

THanks

I have an 94 soft top, I take ten minutes to put it on by myself and about two minutes to take it off. There are two diferent kinds, 89-94 and 95-98 I just do not know how diferent they are.

early 89-94 designs are a one piece design, as the 95-98 have zip-out windows, some manufacturers have a two piece top that has a seam at the targa area, I'm not sure which year these are for, but they do require a metal strip screwed to the top of the targa. The 95-98 also has an extra support bar. 89-94 tops will fit 95-98 with no major modifications, but the 95-98 top on an 89-94 requires drilling some holes, plus you would need the hardware for the year top you want to install.
Mine is a 92, I can take my top off in about 10 minutes, and the same to put it back on, I seldomly completly take it off, I usually leave the rear snaps above the window connected, and just roll the neatly folded top around that bar, and tuck it behind the seat. I used to take it off completely, till I read this post by digger....It makes life much easier  ;)

95-98 Sidekicks also have the "fold and stow" feature meaning that the top folds back behind the rear seat kinda like a conventional convertable car

Stand down, MSG Arthur L. Lilley, your mission is now complete, may you rest in eternal peace.
