I see you have ran in a lot of diferent ways,, I think you could better than most tell us what you think about some mods : ), I also got curious, you used to ran 33'' but now you are back to 31'', could you explain why you got back to smaller wheels?
Have you broken stuff?

yes, i have run a lot of different combinations and parts, all because i was a student when i first got my vit, and money was a big problem, so stuff needed to be free or cost next to nothing, and most of the stuff i ended up making myself.

also, where i am in Australia, there is no one else with a modded vitara, and i would dare say i'd be the first in my city. so there was no help like there are these days, and so i had to rely on what i thought would work, and a lot of trial and error. nothing like coming onto a forum and asking what to do, i just did it.

so..... tyres, well, my original plans when i 1st got my vit were to run 33"s, and it took a little longer to get there in the end. so when i was able to afford 33"s, i wasnt able to get any transfer reduction gearing, which was definately 2nd on the list, but the major problem was legality. i was not approved to run 33" tyres on my vitara, but instead, was able to run 31" no problems.

on road with the 5 speed manual, and 5.12 diff gears, the 33"s were streetable in my opinion, but was definately lacking in off road.

i am legally only allowed to run a 31" tall tyre, technically speaking, so i opted to go with a SIMEX ET, which, in a printed 31"x10.5"x15" measures 32.6" tall, so brand new, the simex's were basically a 33" tall tyre. woo hoo, i got around that, and they cant say anything, because the tyres are printed 31".

also, i did not have enough lift nor clearance for the 33"s to fully flex and clear, especially when turning and so on, and that is why i am trying to build a 5" lift on my vit. after my 31" simex's wear down, i will be going for their 32"s which measure 33.3" tall, or something like that. i will try to get my 32" tyres approved when the time comes.

SIMEX's are extremely good in all terrain, especially with wet terrain consisting of mostly mud! i love them. although not to good wearing on road, but hey, i can live with it.

i am still saving for some transfer reduction gears, as i've always wanted them, but in reality, i have not really needed them. of course lower gearing is better, esp with larger tyres, but in mud running and all, its very important to have wheelspeed to clear the tyres, and i think i would fine low range with reduction may not be fast enough, unless i run 3rd gear low or something. so i have lived with what i have now.

i am lowering the front diff down a bit, only to run a little more lift. i have not broken my front diff yet, but i have broken 3 CV joints, all of which i could have avoided. i mean, you gotta put on a show when there's a crowd!

i am making a new upper link on the rear diff, which replaces the upper ball joint with a bush. i considered a rose joint like the calmini kit, but i run in a lot of water and mud, and from what i have read from others, the rose joint does not hold up that well to mud and stuff.

skid, excellent vitara you have.. very intense looking. I'll probably be doing the college thing when I start modding my vit's suspension. Don't want to thrash it too hard till I get another daily driver though.

anyways, good work, nice ride

you'll be amazed at what these zooks can take before something happens. if you are practical, and choose a good line, you will have no problems. hardcore = mike

before

after

What size tires are these?, and is this calmini 3" suspension lift only? no body lift?
Maybe these before and after picts should include what was done so those of us who will be doing these things some day can see what the rig will look like when certian mods are done to it.  All I have done so far is put on bigger tires, I dont think that warrents a before and after pict.

yea no prob, it s nice vit, I've done some hill climbing and the thing really surprised me as to what it could do so I kept doing more intense hills until I had to start backing down cause I would lift a tire and lose all my traction. The whole turning of the front wheels to grab traction got me over the tops of a few hills I would have backed down otherwise.. yea, Ican't wait till I get some more travel out of my vitara, just ordered some 0-2 inch lift shocks from boondox that should get me some more travel in the back.

I'm sure I'll so some wheeling before getting another daily dirver but once i get another daily driver I don't have to worry about rushing through projects so I can drive it the next day as well as being able to drive the next day if I break something.

Shredder, that's a nice kick, I like the boondox coil spacers added to your 3 inch lift, it sits really nice, did you add some bigger shocks and what not to get more travel out of it when you did the spacers?.. anyways, it's a beast

Thanks. I run the +4" shocks in back. In front I also run some custom Boondox springs because the Calmini ones had sagged more than I liked. Looked like this   /**\  .  Now it rides well and sits tall and proud  l**l . My CVs most likely would prefer less lift but I need alot of clearance for all the mud, ruts and logs I have to deal with. Haven't had one fail yet but i am sure it is just a matter of time.

yea, that's cool, couldn't you make bigger drop brackets for the front diff? also did you do a spacer plate between the diff and driveshaft flanges to make sure the slip yoke doesn't die or can it go that far? curious cause I will probably one day do that much lift. looks like your camber is just barely like "\  /" but barely. I personally think it seems like a good idea to have it over cammed a tadd.. the pic could make it look that way too, I don't know. mine sits like / \ a bit stock, can't stand it. it looks really good with your lift on there, how much abuse did the calmini coils take before they sagged? also are the boondox coils nicer riding than the calmini ones were to begin with?

by the way, just ordered some pro comp 0-2 inch lift shocks last night to put on my stock GV from you guys at boondox, can't wait to intall them
