Wierdest tool you carry when wheelin?
« on: February 07, 2005, 12:32:21 PM »
(I expect the "he said tool, hehehehehe" comments)

I got some surprise looks when the magnet probe I have in my box was *necesssary* for a trail repair ... to me it was a no brainer, fits in the box with the screw drivers, and indespensible *when* a screw/nut/bolt drops into the mud/snow/rocks/engine!

I dunno about an inspection mirror? Can see the use, can also see it breaking?

Slide hammer perhaps? Others?

Regardless of what vehicle I'm in, I *ALWAYS* carry my Sears/Craftsman Mini-Edging Spade shovel with me...  It has saved my ass on many an occasion, and it has been used at work, dig rain/tent trenches for camping, dig my car out of the snow in the ditch, and I always keep all 3 sides sharpened with a grinder so it cuts through the sod, tree roots, and anything else with the greatest of ease.

Maybe a good portable shovel doesn't seem like such an important tool to many of you people with a Warn Winch or something, but to me, it's a good little shovel is a VERY useful & important tool.

Pic removed so I can surf this from work without the techno-geek doesn't see it.   ;)

Duct Tape, Super Glue, & Bubble Gum is what my wife carry's on her tractor trailer, and me the wierdest thing I carry is just a 'leatherman', soldier, flux and a mini torch from Mac Tools.

About that mini-torch, how good do those work, and what do you use it on/for?  I've been thinking about one of those, but don't know what I'd use it on...   :-/

That is NOT duct tape!  It is softtop repair material, and I do carry a roll.

I use it for everything from soldiering wires and heat shrinking wire wraps, to roadside temporary radiator repair, to lighting the campfire. they use a cigarette lighter inside them and a piezio transformer to magnify the flame temperature.

PLEASE tell me you don't do this!
If you just pick your tent spot wisely, you don't have to cut scars on the land, that last for years.

This is one the reasons to have a high lift jack.  Besides lifting your rig, they work as a slide hammer.
