upper control arms?
« on: February 07, 2005, 01:17:22 PM »
Has anyone thought of making an upper control arm and doing away with the struts on the front of a tracker?
I have an idea of building a upper control arm for mine to get rid of the struts.

I jumped my tracker over the weekend and the strut towers did not like it at all.  My front wheels now look like this /  \ because the struts bottomed out and the force had to go some where.  I just don't think that the strut suspension is strong enough for air born adventures.

I got a Sport Strut bar from the U-pull it the other day.   not a direct fit but I understand bracing is a must for jumping.   I cleared about 6' long  and 3' high last week.   Stock Sammy still beat me by 1'....

I didn't want to press it any harder un trussed...  A better bump stop is also a necessity.

Mike has given good info and proved out how to make them live on most all landings.

THe IFS & coils is sooo much smoother the Soild axle & leaves...

Yes, not just thought, but this has
become the plan for my next suspension
mod, not from the want of jump, but
from the want of wheel relocation, forward
and out, about 2" forward and 3" out is the
plan, I'm going to try to prototype this for
Moab and see how it works on the trails

Wish me luck

LOL, I'll be bringing my portable shop too,
AKA the SideKick  ;D  I might have a welder
in there, I think I'll dump the CO2 tank and
get some flux core wire so I don't have to
haul that heavy tank around

What I meant was Luck to get it finished
not that I wouldn't break

Clearly a road   ;D

I need to get some work caught up,
I have been busy too, need the $$
for mods and Moab  .....  Doh   forgot to
call Slickrock Campground, I got to do that
or I'll be sleeping in the weeds

I want to start in about 2 weeks, I think by
then I might be caught up enough to get by
on a Friday night or Saturday

So much to do, and it all happens at once

Thanks Wayne

Wild I picked up a little project for us. this is a Taco front diff spindles hubs 1 axle and the torched remains of the rest of the front  end. Should be some informative wrenching

I also got a spare d35 for parts but we can use it for a test build too.

Thanks

Sounds like a plan, I hope I can
get this finished so I can try it on
the trails, work has been picking up
and now I might have to turn down
some work to get stuff done for Moab

When it rains it pours

Thanks Mike
