I lifted my carpet last night and saw that there are rust holes at the rear sides of where the back seat comes down and also in the latch mechanism for the seat.  Are these likely to be letting exhaust in?  What have others done for rusted floorboards?

Nobody has an opinion!  I may get some heavy plastic and duct tape it over the holes to keep out exhuast until I figure out a better solution.

With the top on and the windows up, I would be concerned about fumes.  With the top off and the vehicle moving I think you would be okay.  I think I would weld some new metal in there before winter comes.

Rust holes add character As long as body mounts are not disconnecting due to the holes I would not worry about it (besides the rust continuing to spread if you dont fix it)

Best thing to do is to get some galvanized sheetmetal. Trim to 1" wider than hole. Clean edge of rust hole, treat for rust, and seal from more to start both sides.  Get floor panel puddy (similar to plumber's putty) and rivets. Place the galvanized panel in or out, use the puddy to seal, then rivet together. Take silicon sealant and place on edge of hole along the galvanized piece. Paint as wanted. Done......for now.

I would do as jagular7 has said above but......instead of using rivets and putty, try to get your hands on some seam sealer. The company I work for makes this stuff for toyota (and a couple other OEM mfgr's)for sealing seams on door skins and such.

Depending on how worried you are about it, you could also use some 2-sided molding tape. This stuff is very aggressive, will bond just about anything together.

i run with all 6 rubber bungs out of the floors everyday, and i have no carpet either. i dont get anything with exhaust fumes, my exhaust exits out the back anyway.

i have no air con, so windows are down. sometime i run with no back window in, and on very few occasions, get the exhaust fume inside, like when i stop at a stop light and so on.

as with the rust, any rust is bad, so the earlier and quicker you can fix it, the longer you can have fun. if you have rust, it'll always be there, and you might as well fix it sooner than later. its not like it'll magically disappear if you leave it. (oh how we wish it would)

I stripped my interior, sanded/grinded the floor, cleaned it. I laid metal screen where there were holes. I then laid down a thick cotton "t-shirt" material and soaked it with fiberglass resin. I avoided all the holes where things mount. To finish, I sprayed the whole floor with rockerguard. It worked pretty good, my only problem now is my inner rocker pannels are missing, I'm going to shape some metal and get a friend to weld them in.

(you have to work fast with resin, it hardens quick, depending on the temp. outside)

I know your not asking me, but I picked mine off with a flat head screw driver, it would pull off in big chunks.
