Heres what I found out today.
There is a shop in Scappoose Or, that does diesels fuel injectors
Hence the name of the shop: DFI Performanc.

The more people that can Em him about Headers and turbos might get him to manufacture a kit.
The guys name is Gary and he rebuilds Injectors and Turbos for Diesels.
Recently he installed a Turbo on a Sammie that he built the header for.



He is really big on Turbos. Heres the Header he build for his AWD Eagle.
BTW. that turbo is out of a 04 Dodge Cummins.

I'm talking to him about making more Headers for the 16valve and maybe akit.
He also goes to wrecking yards to pull Turbos out of other cars to try and keep cost down. (Our type of guy).
The Sammie shown runs 10-12 lbs of boost with some other machine work but 6-7 is a good safety zone.

He also said building the headers would run around 250 bucks. Once he gets the bugs worked out and a shop to mass bend the tubes of stainless steel.
Hopefully by summer I'll have him talked into testing one on  mine. ;D ;)

I have wheeled with that samurai.  It's awesome.
Check out the pics of it in the Moab write up from two years ago. He actually turned around in the middle of upper helldorado to help out a guy behind him.. It's really a tough truck, it's really cool to see that it's evolving !  He used to be running spidertraxs axles.

He still has some custom axles but I don't know what.
The owner of the sammie wasn't there but the shop guy that did the turbo was.
Its a nice tin top ;D
I'lld take it home ;)

Needs the PCV routed to the suction side
of the turbo, this setup could and will super
charge the crank case, blowing oil seals and
make a mess of the clutch.

I wanted to be the first with a Turbo in a Kick.
Then I wanted to be the first 16V Turbo, but
that's been done for over a year now, and posted
here, Where did he go ???

I like the look of the SS header, they take on this
really cool golden color, my next header is going to
be SS as well, but I also want to put the 16V head
on the engine. I really need to figure out if the 16V
head will clear the 8V pistons or if I have to swap
pistons too, swaping pistons is a much more involved
process, if it's just the head, exhaust header and
the Intercooler tubing, I'll have it done in about 2 days
tops, if I got to do a basic rebuild, I ain't a gona be
gitten er done, before Moab, me thinks

BTW .......  Where is the intercooler ???

What did he do to lower the compression ?

Dang man, All good points. :o
It is his first turbo on Zuki.
I'll have to ask him those questions next time I get out there.
He does make a good header though ;D
He mainly works on deisels and has been setting up a Eagle Talon with a turbo but it does have an intercooler.
He did mention he did some shaving on the pistons to take off any sharp edges that would make hot spots.
And Dang it again Wild, I thought I was onto something good. :-/

Ohh your into somthing good,
I like the nice work on the 16V
in the Sammy

I just notice things like that, you know,
motor head stuff   ::)

I'm thinking about shaving the pistons
down to reduce compression, the other
option is to get a slightly shorter connecting
rod (like 2-3mm) to lower the pistons TDC (deck)
height, a friend of mine who does racing
engines said all you need is 100 thou thick
and it will be good, read this is less than
1/4" thick, so I'm going to Mic some piston
crowns and see how much I can mill off the tops

Well heck then.
I'll see about getting a header out of the guy and go to you for the rest of the story.
I don't see the pvc hose hooked up in the wrong spot on the pics I took today (first posting) so it looks like he might of found out the hard way.
Its hard to tell though, I took the pics with my camera phone and the sun was out and bright (for a bit. 8))
The way the guy set up the turbo (up high) was to make it easier to work on and make the exhaust bolt up to the flange of the stock exhaust position.

Wild, would it be easier to run a really thick head gasket to reduce compression? Maybe a spacer or something of the like.

I recall 4 popper Tacoma's running a supercharger over 9psi that come with a THICK head gasket to double as a spacer to reduce the compression ratio. Obviously the head gasket is specially made for that application, as would be for this.

Whachu think? The more I see/hear about turboing 8/16V the more I wanna do it some day and forgo the engine swap.  ;D

Bigger injectors, or something?

How did they deal with the MAF on the intake side?

Several people have said that, I think that
it would work, but there are two things that
I don't like about it, one is the head gaskets
cost about $80-90  and I could probably get
the pistons turned down for close to that, maybe
less, and then there is the two gaskets to blow
out between instead of just one.

There could also be issues with timing belt
lengths, tho I don't think the difference would
cause much if any problem

The only problem with having a turbo header built
is that there are several different mounting flange
shapes, I'm using an IHI from a Subaru, it has a round
flange with 3 bolts, about an 1-1/2 round inlet.
Then there are the T3 and T4 and the hybred with
parts of both, those have a rectangular opening
and a 4 bolt flange, which I think would be easier
to work with when building a header.

My suggestion would be to get your turbo first,
then have him build the header to fit. It will be up
to you to re-clock the center section and the turbine
and compressor housings to fit your application and
the location you are mounting in, if you get a used
turbo, make sure the bolts in the turbine housing
will come out before you settle on your design, if
you can't get the bolts out, and then can't replace
the turbocharger with a like unit, now you have
a pretty tubular paper weight.

Same thing applies to availability of replacement
parts, after my turbo blew up in Moab last year, I
realize how important it could be to have a replacement
center section available or at least carry a good
used one in case you have a failure far from home.

At the least know what the turbo comes from so
if the need arises you can call several shops and
find out if they have a replacement

Yeah what WILD said.

Your going to force air into the crankcase and the pressure will have no were to go but blow seals out.

hey wild to answer your question about swapping the 16v head onto the 8v block i found this thread on teamswift.net that u might find useful jardamuth knows his shit when it comes to suzuki so trust what he says yes it says swift but the guy has the 1.6l sohc 8v motor:

im still here.and the 16v turbo tracker is still running awesome.and that header is trick.but he definetly needs an intercooler,and yeah the vaccum line needs to be on the vaccum side of the turbo.and just an idea,on the crank case vent tube just put a breather filter on it and it will be fine.I know that there are some pics of my turbo setup somewhere on the forum.but its been a long time since i posted them.

and I would try to steer clear of using a cummins turbo diesel or any diesel turbo.they are just to big for 1.6 . I suggest either an ihi rhb5 or a garret t25 turbo
